0:00 there we are now now we're back we're here hi everybody hello and welcome back to the space tomatoes podcast did you work on the intro at all i didn't did you i can put on my my fake smile and say hey everybody welcome to the space tomatoes podcast we're here for another exciting episode i hope you're ready to go we can do the whole uh thing to get too energetic for me you're here with havoc and lx today and we're you know ready to give you a good time or something like that coming up next on the weather yeah right Exactly. Something like that.
1:03 And now it's time for our morning rush hour. Hopefully our audience knows who we are by now. I hope. I think they probably do, but you know, Hey, we, we got a new one. We got another new subscribers. Nice. Welcome. Welcome to our family. Welcome everyone. Welcome to our show where we do. I don't know. We just talk about whatever comes up. sometimes we have topics we do have uh one out there on raw milk and i'm getting close to wrapped up on uh everything i need so that we can i i don't want to use the word finalized because there's so much dude it's just gotten like really stupidly like yeah never ending rabbit hole it's it's so interconnected is what happened right i mean just everything everything is like tied to something else and the more you look at it the more you find and and the worse it gets and you're just like i don't even know right it's it becomes kind of confusing right you you find all of these connection points and then you're like holy shit these tie together and of course they do because of you know x y and z which also now it ties to this and that and this industry and that there's just too much there it's something wrong and what does it all boil down to essentially
2:41 money uh you know i i think yeah i mean at the end of the day it's going to be money it was industry uh money literally an entire industry was created this is this is the interesting part in an entire one of the massive industries in the world today was just created you know um so yeah it's it it's pretty interesting it gets it gets weird you know right um i really wish i wish we yeah i wish i had more time that i could dedicate to that and or you know people we could farm some pieces out to or something you know what i mean just need to build a time machine you can have all the time in the world well there you go yeah but i have to have the time to build the time machine that's true so your background once i get done oh once you get done i see you've been working on your background though you found time for that looks nice my back yeah like your stuff in your background there oh the stuff yeah i move stuff around yeah got a cabinet look a cabinet right here pink cabinet everything's coming together stuff goes in the cabinet so the stuff is in the cabinet and not out of the cabinet so it looks better in the cabinet well i don't know if it looks better in the cabinet but with the doors closed you don't know
4:14 yes the room looks better with it in the cabinet it's like schrodinger's cat right like you don't know what's in the box you know like don't open the box and then you don't have to worry about what's in the box right yeah this pile of junk no longer exists that stuff is both in the box and not in the box at the same time and nobody will be the wiser unless you open the box exactly now i got got rid of a bunch of stuff and and you know needed to when i moved to this desk right this i had one of the old old timey old school big massive desks you know three drawers on each side you know pull outs uh you know for for writing uh etc well whatever you use them for and a massive big oak top made of real dead trees it was definitely made of real dead trees because wow it's heavy i had to i had to take a sawzall and cut it into pieces to get it yeah because it was just too much so um got that the new desk well that took away all that storage space right so then of course i had to go through stuff because you know how drawers are especially in like a desk environment you know if you were to pull everything if you were to go to a random drawer in your house and not kitchen right but you know somewhere else like an office or or you know whatever and pull everything out of there you're going to find stuff that you're
5:46 like i can get rid of this i think everybody has that one kitchen drawer with like all the crap that you don't know where to put everywhere and you know somewhere else that just migrates into that one spot yeah so and i i purge it every once in a while but somehow it re-accumulates and it's like stuff that's not you know like you don't want to throw it away because you might need it you know like extra cords and batteries and things the box the box of cables dilemma right which which happened to me again it happens every freaking time i'm like yeah you know i shouldn't throw this away but it's just been sitting here for so long toss it freaking next week i need this cable i know where that cable is it's at the dump you know because it was in the box and if i had not thrown it away but you know at some point you just kind of have to you know roll with it right you can just collect crap for the rest of your life i guess you can't you never know when you're going to need that charging cable for your nokia 3310 that you haven't owned in you know 26 years and you know it just you might need it one day oh you know what i found in the drawer i found my old ipod dude and the charging you owned an apple product it worked yeah an ipod really does it have like the big long connector on the thing like before they use the lightning thing right yeah yeah yeah the wide nice yeah it's about yeah does it still work yeah i didn't plug it in i it was in the the mode of getting this done and so it's i boxed it oh all
7:25 right yeah don't don't toss it though they're pretty collectible dude there's so much music on that thing if it still works i need to grab it and rip it all because i'm so over the battery probably crap though huh well i don't care i just want to pull the music off of oh can you do that all right yeah i know there's guys that are doing the uh it was my music this is back in the day remember ipod you you would you could take your own you know music and load them onto the ipod right right as mp4s well i had a library of all my cds that i had just created mp4s right i owned all of it right none of it was was you know illicitly gained uh but you know so instead of having the book of cds and a cd player and whatever else i just put them onto mp4s and threw them on the ipod and that way i could just carry that ipod with me i was traveling a lot at the time that's what caused me to do it did not want an apple product not at all but hey it worked and it was robust.
8:30 I'm sure it'll bring back some great memories. There's probably stuff on there that you can't get on Spotify or Amazon or whatever. Oh, yeah, for sure there is. Yeah, there for sure is. I mean, Spotify, they have pretty much everything. I've got some really weird stuff on there that you can't get on. I've heard some of it. Yeah, right? You love it. That's great. We were sitting in the pool the other day and we tried the Spotify DJ thing again. It's a pretty big failure. But at one point, you know what? It goes, hey, let's listen to some stuff you haven't listened to in a while.
9:12 We know you'll be into. You were rocking it for a while. And then that rooster song comes on. I'm like, no, this isn't. No, that's the guy. This guy over here. It was funny. I had a moment. I was like, oh, man. I'll have to bring the guitar when I come visit, and I'll play it for you. You can love it in first person. Just put it on loop. We'll put it over on the sound system. It'll just loop it. Nice. I'll bring the amp. I'll play it live for you. That'd be cool. No, that'll get annoying after about five seconds, I'm sure. No, we'll use it for the show.
9:54 We'll have you do a little bit of live. I can't play that. you'll get a strike probably because i'm so good that it sounds exactly like the recording yeah i'm not i'm not that weird about that at all really not not even a little bit i think i think we'll be all right not that here's the thing you could sound exactly like playing and not them it's a cover it doesn't matter it's it's open you know unless you're covering the eagles they'll still go after you apparently they'll try but i mean you're not it's not monetized or anything like that and it's like you can't claim copyright i'm just you know covering a song now you can't you cannot cover hotel california apparently they'll come after you yeah welcome to california you're gonna get a strike maybe i don't know i don't know i don't know how any of that stuff works how could that possibly be a strike how could that possibly be any kind of violation of anything i'm not sure it's like that's silly i mean i understand like you know the whole remember the whole birthday song happy birthday song debauch no you remember yeah the the person that created the song went and sued really like all these all these restaurants and stuff got got you know so that's why they do the
11:27 whole happy happy birthday happy happy happy happy happy happy happy happy happy you know that kind of stupid we're gonna have to do that for you this year because it always falls around that time i hate that it's it starts on my birthday i really hate that i really do you tried that last a few years ago. The look on your face, man, you had like, yeah, you look kind of angry. I'm like, eh. I told you I'll get up and leave. I will. I will walk right out. Bye. Yeah, we'll have to put some manacles on you and chain you to the chair or something. Only, okay, if I can have a top hat and a monocle. There you go.
12:10 You could do that perfectly. Oh, yeah. I don't have a top hat, but I got a nice fedora I can loan you. Has to be a top hat. And a monocle. Must be a monocle. Pop one of your lenses out. Right. I have a pair around here somewhere like that. It's got a fracture in the frame like right here that you can't see. You just can't see it. And you go pick them up and as soon as you put them on, right, the, you know, the, the ear hangers or whatever they are, you know, kind of stretch out just a little bit as you put them on your head and all of a sudden it goes pop and the lens falls out.
12:54 Why are we saving these? Yeah Because if you have trouble reading and you don have glasses um it sucks you know that true so i'd rather have a pair that i might even have to use manually uh than none at all yeah i i get it i mean purging purging stuff is is good i have a little trouble with it sometimes because it's always the, you know, like you think I'll need that again. But we just went through, got rid of a bunch of, a lot of clothing we brought down to the thrift store and donated. And I listed a couple of things online.
13:36 Dude, I hate dealing with people because they're, it's just not enjoyable for me. I always question myself. Like I should have just donated that crap too, but I probably end up doing that. And then the worst thing of all is trying to give away something for free. Forget, forget it. It's like, no good deed goes unpunished. Let me just put it that way. It misery. Yeah, well, you just apply the old trick. You put it out there on your driveway. That's the only way to do it. $10. It says $10. And then someone will come and just take it. They're like, I'm taking it. Or if you put it free, it'll sit there for ages, right?
14:19 Yep. Exactly. man. Yeah. It's so weird. It's the psychology. It's like, you know, I used to make, I had a business that, uh, we made clothing and one of the big pieces was, was t-shirts and custom designs and stuff. And, uh, I was having a heck of a time selling anything that was female. And I had a lot of shirts for females and men, right? And talking to someone that was in the industry, they, you know, they looked at me and they went, well, of course you're not sewing. And I'm like, why?
15:02 They're like, you're charging, you know, I think at the time it was 1999 a shirt or something like that. And they're like, you're charging the same for men's shirt and women's shirts. Women are going to look at that instinctively and go, no, I'm not buying a men's shirt. So he goes, raise the price, double it, $39.99 for the women's shirts, and you'll sell shirts. I did. I sold shirts. It's the same shirt. Nothing about it changed. I just doubled the cost. And now all of a sudden it's like, ooh, that it's the psychology of it. And it's like, you know, we always look at things, right? And we're like, why is that so freaking expensive? You know, a purse you know it's a piece of leather yeah it's a piece i can get a leather jacket for less than the cost of a purse far less uh and it's like why well because that the market drives the price right the the people will you know do what they want to do and and you know men are less tolerant to shenanigans like that i don't know they still have their uh i mean even in the guitar world people will pay a premium for a name brand that's on the headstock they pay attention to that stuff even if you can get the same guitar for 300 bucks they'll spend five thousand dollars for something because it has a certain name on the headstock i mean if whether it's better or not i don't know but yeah if you can get the same guitar right but you know the
16:34 hardware on the guitar the five thousand dollar guitar is going to be substantially different right and they do sound different. They really do. They do to a certain extent. I mean, the manufacturing is so much better now than it was 20 or 30 years ago with just the CNC machines and stuff. They can actually make a nice imported guitar for 500 bucks. You can get a decent guitar. Oh, yeah. No doubt. Acoustics are a little bit different. They're a little bit more hand crafting than those. Like my Fender P bass and my Ibanez. totally different sound. Right. You play the same damn note through the same damn pedal, through the same damn amp, everything about it, same quick cables, same everything, play boom, and it's absolutely recognizable how different it is.
17:27 And there is a cost difference between the two as well. A little bit. Yeah, a little bit. So yeah, I get you, but at the same time, And yeah, there are big differences, right? It really is. But at the same time, if you're starting out, yeah, don't go buy a stupid fucking, eh, 300 bucks. Heck, you could probably go on Marketplace and find one for like 100 bucks. Yeah, I'd be careful buying used gear sometimes because sometimes guys try to pawn off their problems on somebody else. But I mean, you could buy a, you know, even most guitar makers have different lines that, you know, made either domestically or imported and the important stuff's really not that bad. It's, it's really good quality now for the most part.
18:17 And you can always, you can always do, you know, that's the other thing. Like my, my Fender P base, I went through some iterative upgrades on it. Right. And, and one of the first things I ended up doing was, was new not pickups, the bridge. I put a new bridge on it. It allowed me to adjust the height of the strings a little bit more, which was a huge difference. Playability wise, right? I don't know about sound so much, but then when I did the pickups and the internals and redid that, all of a sudden, wow, now I've got an expensive bass as opposed to a cheap one.
18:57 Little things like that. So yeah, you can buy cheap and then upgrade. You know, it's basically just a big piece of wood as long as your neck is straight. You know? You know. Then again, I'm no, you know, I'm no expert. No, neither am I. Neither am I. You know, get someone who actually knows what they're talking about on here and they're like, nah, it's all the same. I do like watching luthier videos. I think they're pretty good the way that they can take a piece of garbage and make it actually playable again. takes a lot more patience than i have wood is not my thing for sure no i i tried to make a violin really yeah it was uh it was interesting it was it was a lot i'm not woodworking just isn't my thing you know and so that was really the downfall is just so much sanding so much sanding and uh You know I'm going to weld a violin How about that I'll fabricate one out of metal I'm sure that'll sound great Half inch rolled steel Make a 200 pound violin Nobody can use There you go We have a mutual friend that plays violin Do we?
20:18 Yeah Left handed too Who? lives in Detroit yeah I did not know that actively or I don't know I saw it I would have liked to have tried it but I can't play left handed so yeah an electric violin it was oh it was an electric okay yeah those are interesting I've never tried to play a violin they seem like I don't know they'd be fun probably irritating for the first couple years to whoever's around you.
20:58 It sounds really horrible. If you enjoy the sound of like when you, you know, and it just happens, right? We don't ever try and do this, but, you know, when you accidentally step on your cat's tail and you go, that's the sound of a violin in a first-timer's hand. That sounds about right. It's pretty bad. It's pretty bad. I don't know. I want all kinds of things, but I don't know. I probably should dedicate myself more to the guitars that I have. I mean, like a mandolin or I don't know. How many guitars do you have now? How many? Three? Yeah, three. That's not too many.
21:39 That's not enough. Three plus three. I bet you still don't have a 12 string. I have a five string. It's a bass. No, actually, it's a four string bass. not my bad i'm i don't know what i'm thinking of no it's just a regular four string yeah dude it's too heavy though yeah way too heavy it's nice yeah just too heavy base is definitely way heavier than yeah no this thing's like mahogany or something i don't even know what it's made out of or big burl walnut or i don't know i don't even remember what i got it in a trade i'm like yeah maybe i want a bass yeah yeah my like my ibanez is is way heavier than a standard electric guitar it just is yeah it's the strings it's the strings do you do do you do the bass player thing like you never change the strings why would you change see exactly no absolutely i do but you know when i was when i was younger when i was playing more yeah you know i mean you you know i was young and i had very little money and so you know you learned some some tips and tricks that kind of extend the life of your strings including like boiling them you know i've heard of that i've never done it but i've heard of it it works it works especially when you're when you're dealing with you know bass strings right now bass strings are kind of expensive
23:10 they really are and they get chutted up with your skin right so the if you know when you're sliding on a guitar it feels like you've got a very thin piece of wire there right when you slide on a base it feels like you're sliding on a file yeah like a cheese grater almost yeah yeah exactly you can literally watch skin if you get close-up video you can watch like skin particles flecking off fingers as someone's playing a bass yeah yeah they don't really do that anymore i just lost interest i guess really yeah yeah it was a it was something i enjoyed it took up time and and you know i had fun with it but nowadays you know when i have a little bit of free time usually i just want to relax man or research run milk just between work and or research raw milk well that's not free time that's me doing something for a purpose right yeah so I'm never going to turn it you know the bass is it was a part of my life and I loved it and I still have my old bass and it's cool but you know I won't be using it maybe we should do a little band practice at the get together this year no No?
24:38 Yeah, I don't think so. All right. Suit yourself. We could try. I don't have an amp for it anymore. I got rid of my amp. Yeah, I don't have a bass amp either. It kind of doesn't work quite as well when you don't have one. No, and you don't want to plug one into it. No. That's not a good idea. I mean, it'll work for a while, you know but you run the risk of really screwing up your guitar yeah yeah anyway so i was i was thinking earlier i don't know why i got on this topic but i was thinking that could be dangerous whole it is it usually is not always sometimes it's okay i need some juice here you need some like a cold music while you're doing that stained coffee cup even look the lid is just stained oh it's so good dirt flavored water and so yummy is that that like fancy coffee that they make like from some kind of cat eating the beans and pooping them out or something no absolutely not I like coffee a lot and I sure it really good but no I have no interest I not paying that much for coffee And yeah I you know what I talking about right You seen that stuff Oh yeah Yeah It's like the,
26:08 the, what is it? The Kawadi or something. It's some, you know, weasel type of animal. Something like that. Yeah. Animal. Yeah. Yeah. They used to go and follow them around. Now they just pen them up and force feed them a bunch of these coffee, you know, It doesn't sound appetizing to me like at all. Yeah. They pre pre digest them and stomach acids. Apparently there's something, I don't know. Look, if it's in poop, it's going to stay. That's my feelings up, man. Why did I bring this up? Anyway, you were thinking, you were thinking, let's go back to that. We were on the scat chat.
26:50 No, come on, man. That was my own fault. Why did I do that? Well, welcome back to the poop tomatoes podcast. No, no. Anyway, you were thinking. I was thinking it was it's a rarity. No. But so I was thinking about this whole idea, this concept that Mr. Musk has of colonizing Mars. OK. And it was I was kind of thinking about that. And it came up when I was kind of thinking about AI and what impact that may have on our lives in the future.
27:33 Right now, I think there's just a big, way huge overswing towards it. And it's really a fairly useful tool in the right setting, in the right circumstance to augment a person. right but i don't i don't see it really replacing people but anyway it was in that same vein and then i was thinking about this whole colonizing mars and one of the things that came to my mind is look we can't fucking stop killing each other we've been we've been on this planet for who who knows how long and we just we just gotta fucking kill each other and you want to go colonize another freaking planet right and then i start thinking about like the henry tall taj fell and the stanley Milgram experiments and how, how does this play out? And now you think about things like we're sitting here on this planet, right? And there's, there's a real reason why we don't use nuclear weapons, right? This, this, you know, it has occurred by us, of course, because we're so morally, whatever. Anyway, what if it's a group of people on another fricking planet?
28:46 the consequences of that whatever launch a nuke in another planet who cares honestly think about that what makes us think we even deserve to leave this planet and and go colonize something else when we can't just literally stop it's this one simple thing just stop fucking killing each other period just stop yeah i'm happy here i don't need to go anywhere else i get enough anxiety going a couple states away i think i'll right you don't stop strap yourself into freaking i'll pass on the whole mars thing thank you though it's like skydiving in reverse right no i'm good man i'm perfectly good i mean i could go for like a island or something not even an island dude just like a just like a little cleared patch and like you know a couple thousand acres and you know let's put a house right in the middle there i'd be perfectly content oh same same absolutely that's that's my you know dream goal here you know predicated upon winning the lottery i believe but you know let's let's just assume and that's what would happen i would literally just buy a gigantic plot of land and put my house directly in the center of it or maybe if Elon's listening and he wants to do a little experiment and donate, you know, like a few thousand acres,
30:17 you know, we can try a little, uh, plant community or something. See how that works out. I'd be down for that. What we said, if we had, if we had enough property and, and funding, uh, I, I would, I would be, I'm down for a social experiment. I really am. You know, I think it would be neat to take, you know, a hundred acres or so. If you had a couple thousand acres or even a thousand acres, thousand acres, take a hundred acres and just build it up with a bunch of tiny homes. And then, you know, there's a lot of homeless people and I don't believe that they, you know, yes, there are, there are mental health issues. Yes, there are drug abuse issues. There are all these things.
31:01 And I think, you know, that's always going to be a concern, right? However, the drug abuse and, And alcoholism and things of that nature are pretty much usually escapism. I'm in a really terrible place, and I see no way out. So I'm going to use and get messed up because it's better than being in the situation I'm in. I can see that, yeah. Well, no, it's a reality. I promise you that that is a real, real thing. And so, you know, giving people a chance, you know, I'm not going to like, you know, we're going to make a farm and you've got a house and it's a tiny house and there's nothing special about it.
31:53 Right. I mean, this is just, you know, bare bones, basic, but it's your own place. You can lock the door. You can have your stuff. You can do your thing. But you work on the farm, et cetera. It's all voluntary. If you want to come do it, you can. If you don't, you don't. If you want to come and it's not for you, then leave. But I would do something like that. I think that would be a great little model to put in place. Like take someone and, okay, look, you're in a screwed up situation. Let's see if we can't help you out of it. But you do have to have somebody that's going to enforce the rules because I just don't think anarchy is going to work in a situation like that.
32:34 No, obviously. Obviously not. There would be kind of a, in my brain, it would kind of work on a graduating, you know, thing, right? Where, you know, when you first come in, there's a little, you know, a lot more structure, a lot more structure, a lot more, you know, things you need to do, you know, as you show that, hey, I'm doing this, I'm putting in the effort, I'm willing to go and, you know, do all this. then you move to maybe next phase where the structure gets lowered. If you can't hack it in that phase, well, then we have some discussion to do. Do you want to go back with the more structure for now and try again later?
33:18 Or is this just not something you can deal with? But I think it could be doable. It would be something that would require iterative effort. It wouldn't just be like snap your fingers, put some stuff there, and boom, everything's solved. No, I don't have any kind of utopian wild dream like that. But if, you know, one out of a hundred people gets out of that situation, that's a freaking miracle, man. That's just, that would make me, you know, I'd be very happy. Very happy. So do you have to like vote on who the Supreme Leader is and who controls the Kool-Aid and all that stuff? Or does that just naturally happen?
34:02 Who controls the community? No, I mean, most of those communities, I don't know, some of them, like, they just turn out, you know, in a weird, wrong kind of way. Lord of the Flies? Yeah, I guess. No, I mean, I think there's a number of ways you could structure something like that, right? I'm a big fan of consensus-based, right? A reasonable consensus-based, you know, idea. less less of a you know a a king or a a you know leader and more of a group of people that want to achieve a specific goal and again you're going to have trouble right and there's no you know utopian solution to everything but you know it it beats the hell i think going through that iterative process beats the hell out of ideas so good that they have to be enforced at the point of a gun. I don't know. My pessimistic mind just like it's telling me it's a good concept. It's just there's 8 million ways that it's not going to work. And, you know, hey, that's fine.
35:10 Worst case, I end up having a retreat for, you know, friends. There you go. Who cares, right? But I think it can work. I've seen it work. You know, I have. I've seen something like this, something very much like this work. And it doesn't work most of the time, but it does work a percentage of the time. And those people change their lives and they change the lives of the people around them. I can see that. That's a pretty heartwarming thing. And I mean, so what If it fails. So what if it keeps failing? If again, one out of a hundred makes a change, that's, that's massive. That's a change that never would happen otherwise.
36:00 Maybe not never, but you know, I'm not kidding. You know, it's, it's a, I see that as being, you know a fundamental issue right this is another thing they just yeah back to this again we're spending a freaking trillion dollars a year on military okay and our solution to homeless people is to just just bulldoze their encampments and either arrest them throw them in a mental institution or just just you know fuck them off out of town somewhere else where we can't see the problem maybe maybe just maybe if we weren't so concerned with killing other people and we and we redirected even a little bit of that effort towards helping people things would be different maybe maybe maybe you should uh start a 501c3 or something then do something like that how hard is it to start one of those that sounds like dealing with government well i i guess i mean you know but the problem is you have a bunch of acreage of property and you got to pay taxes on it then they're going to kill you on it you know if it's a charity you can kind of get around that a little bit yeah use that money towards other things sure sure we just got our property tax uh assessment notices yesterday in the mail
37:35 oh a new assessment no you know like the the yearly uh this is what your bill is going to be if this is passed if that's passed so they give you three columns all of them are more expensive than it was the year before of course of course yeah of course because reasons yeah i remember when we were putting that the what is now a deck was going to be a screened in porch right it was 24 by 28, uh, screened in porch edition we were going to do. We really liked it in our old house. It was really nice. Um, and I remember, you know, we're in the process of building this thing and, and, you know, my builders kind of flaking and being a jackwad and, you know, the County comes out and one day randomly, and they're like, Hey, you know, one from the tax assessor's office and we want to look at your, you know, screened in porch to assess your tax volume and i'm like what and they're like yeah well it's covered space so we need more money because you built something on your house and i was like well you can imagine my reaction to that i'm like well it ain't built there ain't nothing covered so get the hell off my property go away and they're like well i'm like i don't care get out of here did you go through the whole permitting process with all this stuff well that's your mistake you should just you know well yeah Yeah.
38:54 Yeah. But we kind of enjoy our homeowner insurance being there for us And if you build stuff on your house and you don permit it then you can really insure it so i don know i mean we got our new neighbors kind of doing that kind of stuff they're doing all kinds of unpermitted stuff that they're not supposed to do what makes you think they have insurance yeah i guess well they have a mortgage i mean honestly yeah if you have a mortgage you can't don't you have to have insurance uh probably yeah yeah but you don't know they have mortgage yeah you assume i'm assuming you don't know you you are you're right i'm just saying it's possible and and i don't know that's that's their deal not mine i have i have found it hard to kind of mind my own business like as much as like i don't want people in my business like i'm like man i really don't want to be involved in other people's stuff but it is irritating because you You know, when I did construction projects here, I did it, you know, the legal way and got the permits.
40:03 And, of course, you know, I'm paying for it by higher taxes and all that stuff. And it's irritating when somebody kind of skirts all those things and says, I'm just going to do whatever I want. But I did not do anything about it. I'm going to cheer that on, honestly. Go do whatever you want. Don't tell the government and be happy. I guess. those guys yeah seriously what what the hell dude seriously don't get caught i guess i mean what what happens if you get caught doing that stuff like i don't back charge i don't know make you rip it out i don't know make you get up to code probably remove your certificate of occupancy or whatever the case is or something i don't know but anyway back on the deck thing like two months later, these guys come back, right?
40:59 Because they had such an enjoyable experience. The property appraiser people? Yeah, the tax assessor. And it still isn't done. And they're like, well, do you want us to just go ahead and add it onto your tax bill now? And I'm like, are you freaking high? No, I'd prefer you never add it onto a tax bill. And no, you cannot do that until something actually is built. It never got built. And after that noise, part of the decision to turn it into a deck was because of that. I'm not paying the government more money because I built something with my sweat equity. And now you think I owe you because I built space?
41:40 Go fuck yourself. Sorry. I'm kind of curious. I mean, our governor here in Florida is talking about doing away with the property taxes. I don't know. I mean, it could be just blowing smoke, which it probably is. It's very doable. I mean, keep the, you know, look, at the end of the day, right, it's very doable. You don't have to make it so that, you know, this and that and the other thing is all taxed, right? I mean, I'm personally in the camp of we don't need taxes. We really don't. We didn't for a very, very, very long time, and we did just fine, right?
42:23 But if you're going to do something like this, I'm a big fan of something around a consumption model. You know? You want the rich to pay more? Okay, the guy sitting there pulling out money to buy a $500 million yacht, well, there you go. You're going to pay taxes on that full $500 million. No cuts, no breaks, no fucking nothing, right? by the same token, the, the, you know, dude that just bought himself a little bass boat with a little electric motor so he can go fishing. Well, he's going to pay taxes on that too, but you see the, the difference, right? And, and you can, you can easily create a situation and circumstance where we just get paid on, we, you know, pay taxes on what we consume a consumption. So you think like a higher sales tax on everything that you buy pretty much. And then That'll fund the fire and roads and all that schools, I guess.
43:17 Whatever needs funding. Either that or a flat. I think that's probably one of the better ways because the people that don't have money are spending a lot less. That is 100% true. And the people that do are spending a lot more consuming things. And so it becomes very fair. If you're buying a Lamborghini, you're going to pay for that. If you're buying a Ford Escort, you're going to pay for that. Let's not even get into car taxes. That irritates the crap out of me too. Dude, taxing crap that I bought that you taxed me on to buy is...
43:58 What the... But somebody buys a brand new car, pays 50 grand, and they're paying several thousand dollars in tax. And then a couple of years later, they sell it to somebody else. And then they have to pay the tax on it again. And then somebody, you know, three years down the road, sells it to somebody else. And then, you know, maybe somebody like me buys it and you got to pay tax on it again. It's kind of crazy. Why should they get taxed on a vehicle several times over that's already been taxed on the purchase of? Well, constantly as well. We don't have a registration fee. Yeah, the registration fee. Yeah. I mean, that's a tax. I'm sorry, but that's exactly what that is. And unless you're like leaving your vehicle on your property and only using it on your property, you know, you're, you're going to pay that tax period. And it's like, okay, what it's, it's maddening because there's literally nothing you can do without being directly or indirectly taxed.
45:03 I mean, breathe, I guess, you know, for now, right? Studies have found that people breathe more when they're, we're going to have to tax your breathing. I literally, if they could figure a way out to do that, they fucking would. And that is not okay. It's not, it's just not. They're working on it. Yeah. And it's morally, it's morally, you hear my opposition to killing people, right? I don't condone that. I don't approve of that. It's morally sickening to me.
45:45 And yet that's the whole thing. You know, you have to freaking pay to kill people when you are morally sickened and opposed by that act. No, it's wrong. Let me read this one down. Taxation. You already wrote that one down. Oh, I got that one down. It's the same one. All right. It's the same one. Just pick any topic that has government involvement, and that's all it takes. Well, at least government's not wasteful, because that would make it even worse.
46:29 yeah at least they're thoughtfully using your tax money what was that there was a report that came out i think i think it's probably 20 plus years now but they found that that a toilet seat a toilet seat the pentagon ordered toilet seats fifty thousand dollars yeah but is that just covering like other projects like hiding the funding for i don't something else if you paid no because they do the same thing with like bolts nuts and bolts like a you know a dollar 20 bolt when it goes through the military right and and yes you can argue there's you know a little additional little additional yeah no i mean they're all both bolts have to go through sheer testing you know tensile strength you know all all that kind of stuff so they already go through that they go through a little more testing and next thing you know the things like you know a 28 bolt is it's not 28 it's not it might be two dollars as opposed to a dollar 20 you know what i mean but this is this is rampant throughout our entire government you know and it's like it's just it's such a three million people employed by this freaking thing three million people what the what in the dude no might come no what three million people why it should be like
48:04 10 000 that's it it's all you get 10 000 that's it if you can't do it with 10 000 it shouldn't be done doesn't need to be done we need more irs here you can collect more taxes yeah yo yo in chief fucking just reneged on the whole fucking thing and said oh yeah we're gonna bring back all those fucking irs oh really i don't pay attention imagine having that as a fucking job i you couldn't tell anyone because they'd all fucking hate your guts you know what i mean he's just like you're the you're the worst fucking loser that ever fucking walked the face of the earth that's what your job have i ever told you what i do for a living never mind i don't want to right it's terrible dude it's terrible it's terrible terrible shit i hate it government employee jobs i gotcha just just just all you need is that first word government government you know it's it's maybe we just don't have enough like supervisors that's apparently what it is that's why we need three million freaking government that is that is a lot it sounds like a lot you think yeah you think like when you look at like big big organizations corporations it was just take you know one of the large banks in the united states and you're
49:35 looking at 200k employees okay 200k 200 000 that's that's that's it that's just that's all that's that's even that is a lot of people but how how is it that you can operate you you look at that right i mean that's that means what is that oh my gosh that's 15 times that many people is that right no yeah 15 times 15 times 15 global mega corporations worth of people like Amazon could probably run shit better same well i mean corporations typically like to you know not spend extra money that they don't have to apparently that doesn't do you know why the government they have to spend their own fucking money yeah exactly yeah it's real easy to spend money when it's not yours really that's that's and you just don't care why would i care i just i'm either going to print more and debase the currency even more than it already is uh or i'm i'm just gonna freaking tax you more yeah because i can't figure out how to negotiate the cost of a fucking bolt
51:09 the inflation thing kind of does blow my mind because for whatever reason youtube throws these old like prices right clips at me and it's amazing that like dude like even back in the 80s you can you get a car for you know like under well under 10 grand and then 10 years before that in the 70s dude a new car was like two thousand dollars yeah like two thousand bucks it's yeah it's you know look here's here's the thing right if you if there's one of something on the on the planet Just one. It's really valuable, right? If there's a thousand of them, it's still really valuable, but less than if there was only one.
51:56 If there's a trillion of them, it's fucking worthless, man. Everyone could have one. You know what I mean? Literally everyone. Everyone could have one. It doesn't matter at that point. The same thing holds true for currency, right? When you just keep throwing more of it out there, more, more, more, more, more, more, more, the supply becomes less valuable. It's literally that simple. That's what it is. This is all a direct result of government, a direct result. And back to that Milton Friedman quote, right? If you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara Desert in five years, there'd be a shortage of sand. It's the same thing, right? And that's problematic. You know, and everyone likes to come in, we're going to attack. No, you're not. Shut the fuck up. You have no interest in doing so. You're not going to. You're not. So, great.
52:57 And why do people still believe these fricking sock puppets? Why? What exactly makes you think that is going to be different this time? Wasn't it going to be different last time and the time before that and the time before that throughout your entire life? Wasn't this one going to be the one that was, this was the most important election of our lifetimes. Now it's, it's the same fricking contest. It's a popularity contest where the, the people voting on the popularity contest are all a bunch of fucking idiots morons it's yeah it's kind of a fixed fixed deal i mean look i got my poof i was just noticing that but now it's worse yeah i didn't hope that did i fuck it then there we go that's a new look for you nice maybe we'll leave everybody off with that no this is good this is good yeah i'm now like a silky that's what it looks like right are those chickens good for anything are they just like for decoration no they're actually really really good at hatching out Oh, okay.
54:16 So they go broody. They're probably one of the most well-known broody chickens. And what that means, if you don't know, I can't assume people actually have raised chickens before, right? Probably. So what that means is you'll have chickens that go broody, and that means they go and they sit on eggs. They will sit on clutches of eggs trying to hatch them out, right? that's a broody chicken so if you're trying to do natural hatching silkies are awesome because you can literally take a clutch of eggs from somewhere else and put them under silkies and they'll brood on them and hatch them out other than that completely useless completely useless just tiny birds they're they're pretty they they look cute but they're weird cute um but they they just, they're not, we don't own any.
55:11 And the only reason I would ever get them is to have broody chicks, broody hens. Sorry. Yeah. No. Yeah. I don't, I don't know. I, uh, our chickens are getting kind of older. I'm not sure if we're going to stick with the same kind we got or go with something different next time. You've got like, do you even have two that are the same breed? Yeah, we got two Wyandottes and two Americanas and two Morans. Oh, okay. Copper Morans? Yeah, one's a mix and the other one's, yeah, Copper Morans. She's actually the best layer we got. She's little, but steady.
55:57 Yeah, you got something going on there. I can't put it back. Nope, it's out now. Too late. Too late, dog. yeah that's better all right everybody we'll see you next week yeah well hey wardrobe malfunction it happens luckily it doesn't need to be sensitive yeah at least maybe i'll put a little black you won't get a fcc violation notice on that right no fines oh man what do you guys got planned for today anything uh going on yeah we gonna we gonna try and tackle the fence uh uh fenced area create a permanent fenced area yeah the new goat goat yard area nice um we'll see the string trimmer is acting up so we'll have to see if we can get it to to start if not then we'll have to wait until i can get in there and or we can get it get it either repaired or you know get a new any of that rain from the hurricane coming your way you know we really haven't had anything okay good yeah just some cloud cover really good i guess i mean we need rain okay back in the whole you know this is the time of year for us typically where everything turns brown and gets crunchy all right i know when you get too
57:28 much rain it kind of turns into a muddy uh clay mud pit over there it definitely little frogs coming out of the ground like from somewhere and you know sucking mud we we have that lots of it yeah if anyone needs mud yeah i got you nice bring your own container yeah never ending supply it's dust or mud man that's what it is you know when it's when it's raining like crazy you're praying for it to dry out and when it dries out you're praying for it to rain got some rocks too throw in there for good measure we do have rocks yeah nice we have rocks it's good though the mineral content you know you you need that rocks are good i mean you really have rocks everywhere you just don't think about them as rocks yeah smaller rocks very tiny rocks but it's rocks I mean sand is just tiny rocks right exactly well some of it's coral and other stuff but yeah some of it's rock depends depends on if you got it from a quarry or not in your case you got it from the ocean so probably a mix of coral and rocks and limestone yeah dead skeleton limestone.
58:50 We're not doing any fence today. I've got to replace the guts of my toilet. It keeps running. Oh, that's right. Did the stuff arrive? There's the flush handle, which I think is kind of messed up a little bit. That's coming via the mail. I don't know if it'll be here today, hopefully. But I've got to go over to Home Depot or Lowe's or one of the places and get the other stuff. All right. It says they have it. I can find it and deal with the public. That's a quick, easy project. Yeah. I mean, I'd prefer not to do it, but. Yeah. The toilet tanks aren't exactly like, I hate plumbing. I'm not good with plumbing. I'm not real good.
59:31 It's easy. It is. I just don't like it. You know, it always invariably ends up with me in a position that my back is really unhappy about. That's true. that's that's one of my my dislikes for it yeah so yeah but hey you know get it done the worst is when you have to work under a seat oh yeah because then you you know you lay down because you have to right and then like you know there's there's a you know ledge that high so your back kind of just sits up on that ledge it's super comfy you know yeah it's just natural feeling and right awesome yeah i love it anyway yep so we're gonna go ahead and go over there hopefully uh the rain lets up for a little bit rumbling out there the whole time i don't know if you can hear it or not can't no don't don't hear it at all yeah yeah i had the same thing we were on a podcast and it came came through i could hear it you guys could i did hear uh i listened to the last episode that kept me i went under the door door a little bit yeah i couldn't i couldn't get rid of it there was i was just like yeah all right well yeah she stopped after a while yeah yep she upset because her mom left to go out somewhere nobody paying attention to her i guess yeah i mean i getting better at editing i think you are getting better that stuff in general but i not to the point where like you know i sure someone that that you know really does
1:01:10 you know sound uh could have removed that i i don't i don't have that skill as as of now so i don't know what i'll ever get deep enough into it i don't think it's even that necessary to be honest with you. People understand. Yeah. Yeah. As long as we're wearing pants, I think we're okay. Oh, you're wearing pants? I didn't get that memo. Oh, yeah. Okay. All right. I guess we're going to keep on the one a week. We're going to try to.
1:01:51 Sorry for missing the other week, everybody. and stuff kind of happens. Hey, life happens. We're back on schedule, hopefully. This is an unpaid gig, so we put out content. We enjoy doing this. Hopefully you enjoy listening to it. But we try to be consistent. It is our goal. But there will be times where we miss a week or something. We'll try and inform it, but sometimes we just want and then we'll just talk about it later still still looking for a guest to come on if you're interested in doing that even though it makes the editing job a little bit more difficult for the editing guy i think but it does it does but you know it's it's good it's i like having uh guests on the show you know because you get interesting perspectives different opinions different thoughts and, and, you know, I like to entertain that, you know, I'm one of those people that, you know, I don't, I don't like to be stuck in my own echo chamber, right. I like to entertain other thoughts and ideas and, you know, uh, see, you know, kind of just examine them, you know, pick them up, turn them around, check them all out, see if it's got any moving pieces, you know, better than contempt prior to investigation. Right. I think that's a problem that a lot of
1:03:24 people have. They get stuck in their little echo chamber. If, if, you know, this or that doesn't agree with my ideology in totality, then I can't, you know, I can't even entertain it. You know, And it's, you know, it's like, you know, a big one, right? Reading, you know, Karl Marx, arguably a complete buffoon in a lot of ways, but his writing had some good pieces to it, right? No, I'm not a communist and don't appreciate the idea of it either. But, you know, I can also see where there were good ideas, etc. Right. So it's like that, you know, no, I'm not a communist.
1:04:06 and yes, it's communist swill and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But at the same time, you can't just discount all of it just because, yeah, I don't align with that ideology. I mean, you can, but you're not improving yourself, in my opinion. Never read it. I don't know anything about it, to be perfectly honest with you. Yeah, there's some interesting ideas, you know, very interesting. so getting that kind of view into other stuff now granted there are areas where I'm just like yeah no nope not gonna do that not interested don't even care nope so whatever speaking of reading I gotta get on my reading I'm behind on two books now yeah you are yeah I blame it on my hair.
1:05:07 What is going on with this stuff? Anyway, I don't know. It looks weird. A little bit. It's very interesting. I might just do this and go out. We have to go to do some shopping today. I might just do this. Here you go. Wear it like that. I think my wife would be very appreciative of that. She won't mind. She probably wouldn at all she wouldn even care she just be like she glad you getting out of the house that kind of the same i think for me and my wife as it is for you and your wife it's it's a it's a catch-22 yes we're glad we're getting you out of the house but oh please go back to the house. I think it raises her anxiety level a little bit when I go out of that house.
1:05:57 Yeah, yeah. Especially if we, like, one of the places I think we're going to know, we probably go today is Costco. Okay. And that becomes a good portion of the time, I just stay in the car. It's better that way for everyone. Everyone involved is happier when I just stay in the car. Yeah. Yeah. I, yeah, yeah. You're a work in progress. I have a lot of work to do. There's a lot of progress that needs to be made or not. I could just, you know, just want that thousand acres right in the middle.
1:06:38 That's it. I'm done. Like, I don't need a car anymore. For what? I'm in the middle of my property. Food everywhere. It's not to keep the people away from you. It's to keep you away from all the people. Pretty much, yeah. I mean, it's a little of both. Right? I mean, yeah. Yeah. It's just one of those things. I think I've said it before, but there have been multiple instances where I haven't left this property in six months, just not at all for any reason. I just know why I don't want to.
1:07:20 Yeah. I feel, I feel you on that for sure. Yeah. I'm one of those. Just put me out in the middle of nowhere and just leave me the heck alone. You know, that's all. Just leave me alone. I hear hammering in the other room. I should probably go check on that. Why? She's probably just putting up a screw. Yeah. I don't know. So she can hang something. my ex did that. And this is no joke, literally. A drywall screw and a hammer and hanging.
1:08:02 Really? That's interesting. Yes. Okay. Yeah, it doesn't work well. It doesn't work very well at all. No, it makes a big hole, and the screw doesn't have any real hold to it at all, so things fall. Nice. You know? Yeah, it's a bad idea. It's a bad idea. Yeah. All right. You want to take us out?
