Buckle up for a delightfully derailed ride through the wild world of off-grid living with your fave duo, LX and Havok! From rigging up a "do-not-disturb" red light to dodge wifey walk-ins (and debating the ethics of invisible dog fences, zap or nah?), these two dive headfirst into morning walks in puffy coats, ugly-but-oh-so-tasty organic Fuji apples that laugh at pesticides, and a bumper crop of plums threatening to snap branches like overzealous piƱatas.Hear Havok geek out over misting his indoor vanilla vines (because who needs beans when you've got jungle vibes?), LX's radish rapture, and why Swiss chard is spinach's beefier, better-behaved cousin. They roast everything from app-obsessed air purifiers ("Why track your filter like it's a Fitbit?") to diesel disasters in Cadillacs, synthetic oil hacks for low-mileage trucks, and the bone broth bonanza from their mega-turkey harvest (32 pounds of smoked glory stock included!).Plus, rants on subscription-saturated gaming ("You don't OWN it? Pirate away!"), WiFi stoves that demand Bluetooth breakups, and why EVs can be commuter kings but not road-trip royals. Wrap it up with dreams of pet longhorns, vole-proof sweet potato rings, and a teaser for their live stream chaos. It's unfiltered farm-fresh fun, grab your mulch and join the banter!

0:00 And we're back live. on well we're not live we're recording this but live later on tonight october 4th and you won't see this until next week so you won't you'll be like well i don't know that was last week okay so this is not a good advertisement welcome back to another episode of the space tomatoes podcast i'm one of your hosts havoc and i'm lx hello we are a live not specifically live but we're a live Hello.

0:53 Yeah. Mostly? Probably. I hope so. Yeah. Yeah. It's now telling me that our session is being recorded. I'm like, well, yeah, I pressed the record button. Kind of knew that. Then you did a countdown. You don't need to put a pop-up on my screen that says, oh, now you're being recorded. You can dismiss. There's a lot of indicators that show you you're being recorded here. speaking of which i think i need like a little red light outside of my room i have one if you want one do you really i do just the light bulb is that what you have nope the whole thing i had one i did i have a couple of them i had them set up here and then uh when i did the dry well i took it off patched the hole yeah i might put one up just so my my significant other my lovely wife when she you know comes you know whatever she's not aware that we're recording sometimes she has the tendency to make noise which i don't blame her she's just living her life as we all should yeah but if the red light is on she she was like yeah if we had something like that i would know and then i'd just be quiet you know you need more of a reminder i mean i have ideas i can pitch you some ideas if you want like what like um like they get this thing for dog training called an e collar you can get her one of those and then if she starts making noise just give it a little you

2:26 know you could you could like set it you can just give a tone at first and if that doesn't work you can progressively increase the uh the severity of the notification geofencer you move outside of this boundary i mean that's just one that's just one idea it's just a reminder a gentle reminder have you ever been shocked by one of those i have yes yeah me too buddy of mine and and i we we got the little i don't remember it was a long time ago and these guys had just come out like the shock color people with the invisible fence type stuff or whatever it is and so we're like all right well we want to see if this is actually going to work and this is going to hurt the dog right so you put the collar on it oh yeah that's that's uh that's quite the engaging experience yeah so i mean it's not it's not pleasant we can put it that way but i mean it is it is a tool that i mean i wouldn't suggest anybody just run out and get one i mean and like it has to be used sparingly and correctly you know to properly work that way so yeah and the waves go along with this well i'm oh you were talking about dogs they might uh put up a little bit of a fight at first but you know they'll get used to it i'm pretty sure that thing would end up around my johnson at night

3:57 going off while i was asleep if i did something like that i mean it you know if anything it'll make a good uh good episode the next week to talk about it would some some yeah hilarious comedy and misfortune yeah i mean maybe set up uh like a camera on a tripod to get some footage of that as you're implementing your new uh training regimen no i don't think that's a good idea at all no i don't i think oh my goodness i would not be in good shape after that right but and i wouldn't blame her for any reaction to that because yeah so yeah i'm just gonna scratch that one off the list what else you got um i guess just go with the stupid light boring light yeah light light notification communication hey by the way this is going on yeah maybe a little better than zap just an idea man just tossing it by you yeah i mean hey you know i'm not going to throw it out completely but i'm going to keep it way back in the storage area do you guys have a walk this morning we did it was nice nice sunrise we've been going well i mean the sun's coming up a little bit later so uh yeah we've been still going at the same time right around 7 a.m but uh you know it's a little bit darker when we leave so i like i bring a

5:31 little flashlight with me you know so we don't get ran over by accident yeah it's it's fairly dark here at 7 a.m now yeah yeah i get to watch the the trees and all lots of trees so you know we don't like 7 a.m i i would say that's probably right around dawn for us like yeah you're seeing light but it's not light right so yeah i've been waiting the i i had been letting the chickens up before we leave on our walk but i just leave my bed they're fine let them out when we get back yeah i'm sure they're fine but yeah i can't see the sunrise today it's nice a little cooler today a couple degrees cooler than uh it has been which was a nice pleasant change oh yeah it was great i mean it's 50 degrees for us last night yeah it's a little bit chillier than here it's like 67 when i say it's cooler like 67 so yeah like lx is in his puffy coat got a park on it's in the 60s she got me some new sweatpants for uh Or when it gets colder to walk.

6:40 I guess I'm not getting the easy way out when it gets too cold. You're still going to be going. Yeah. I mean, you know, hey, they make some really nice, nowadays, really nice long underwear. And it's not baggy like it used to be. So it's very, you know, it's kind of tight. But, I mean, it works really well. It's super thin. Look at that on. And I'm telling you, like, even in, like, you know, 40 degree, 30 degree weather, It really is a major enhancement to comfort. That's what I need when I come visit you, maybe. I don't know if I'd have any use for it down here. We rarely get that cold. Maybe once in a while. Yeah, definitely.

7:20 I mean, I have some. If you want to borrow some of mine, you're more than welcome to. It's a little weird. That's all right. Maybe. Whatever. We're friends. You could wear my tights and my tutu if you want. Nice. no i don't have a tutu but you know hey i know for a fact you do have a set of um stitch pajamas though i i do have a stitch pajama suit thing but i don't know if i can get into it it's it's fairly small is it okay i think so i think so yeah but you know hey i do have that we should we should do that we should all dress up in like one of those you know costume things when we go out to breakfast or something just all show up like that oh come on yeah what's going on over there maybe i'll wear a hat or something a darth vader helmet i you know why i do enjoy coming up there because i get to wear my my wool cap which i never get to ever wear but i get to wear it up there which i enjoy yeah it gets cooler up here that's for sure but i mean honestly you know the the lows that we have aren't that far from your lows we just have more of them but not by a lot that's true but most of our winters usually in the you know 50s you know during the day yours is in the 60s so it's really

8:56 not that far off you know enough to make those banana trees melt well that's that's at night usually that's at night and you know every once in a great while we'll get a real cold snap and that's messed up we have to take all kinds of precautions because we're not we're not in a northern climate right so we don't there's things aren't built for getting into single digits you know um maybe very briefly but not like you know we had almost a week or about a week one time where we were in single digits and it was it was tough you know we had to cover stuff put light bulbs in the well rock you know uh halogen lights to generate heat in the well rock um we had to you know do the same in the chicken coops you know um because our chicken coops are pretty large i mean they're they're well built they're very nice chicken coops but they're large And even though we have a lot of birds in there, sometimes it just gets cold.

9:57 You know, it's probably that same week that we were down in like the teens and the 20s for a solid week and everything died. Like all the. Yeah. Yeah. But that banana tree supposed to last to 20 degrees. No, it did not. It hit 32 and it just melted. The whole thing just literally took a picture sent to the people and they're like, all right, we'll give you your money back. and you can have them free, whatever you want. Was it an ice cream banana? It was, yeah. See, you'd think by the name that it should handle that, right? Yeah, well, they even said, again, they listed it on the site, it'll be good to 20 degrees. So we thought, well, if we cover it at a very, I mean, we added a pile of mulch, which, by the way, the thing just loves.

10:44 We haven't done anything to it. And now there's three of them and two pups. They like chicken manure, too. yeah i've heard yeah but i mean we just we just piled mulch on them and we have literally done nothing with these things at all this year and they are in great shape no water we went like a month without any rain oh wow partially because of the mulch partially because at the bottom of that taproot is clay right so okay it's soaking up water and it's been fine you know nice yeah it's really nice yeah we've been doing some planting of our starts they're coming around that's getting that time nice we got some got some apples this year which is nice next year i imagine we'll get a bunch they're not pretty they're ugly apples compared to store-bought apples because we don't spray a bunch of crap on them but they taste all right they taste they taste great oh good they're not like crab apples or cider apples or nothing they're fujis all right so they're very very uh well so for me i like the fuji because it's a very dense apple right like one of my things and i i hate to even say this but i do like if i go to buy an apple from like a farm stand or whatever i always grab it like i'm turning it around in my hand or something and then I just apply even pressure with my thumb.

12:12 And if it goes up and makes a little dent in it, I put the apple back. I want nothing to do with that fucking apple. Really? No, I want an apple that doesn't squish in. And that's a Fuji. All right. They're very dense. They're very, very sweet and juicy and everything else. But that density to me is the thing. I don't like, I can't stand biting into like a, you know, what do you call them? The red delicious or whatever. and you bite into it and it's got that pithy, like it's not, you know what I'm talking about? Yeah, I get it. I hear you saying. That grosses me out. You know what grosses me out? Like the ones you buy at the store, dude, they try to make them look nice.

12:55 They almost like candles There so much crap on the outside And you can get it off I mean I would just eat it but the last one we got I ended up peeling the skin off because I don want to eat a freaking candle It's gross. Yeah, we've actually gotten a couple of them. My wife loves apples, and I'm real big on, like, don't buy them. I don't care how cheap they are. I don't care how beautiful or delicious looking or whatever they are. If they're not organic, do not freaking touch them. Okay. Because these things are loaded with pesticides, loaded with them and fungicide and, you know, herbicides all around them.

13:38 And they're, they're just, you know, sprayed constantly. Right. And so we've gotten some apples that she's bought that have this new, what do you call it? Appeal. Appeal. Yeah. Yeah. A peel. Yeah. Yeah, we've gotten apples that have been fermented internally that look beautiful on the outside. You cut them open, they smell like they're about to make alcohol. Wow. Yeah. Yeah, it's pretty gross. And so I'm like, yeah, don't bring that crap in the house. Don't buy it. I don't care, right? Mm. You know, no.

14:19 I think they do that with a lot of produce. Well, that stuff, right, they do. And that stuff, you can call and ask, like, not only companies but also groceries. Like, do you stock things that use appeal? And they have a list of them. They'll tell you. You may have to call and get a hold of someone and then call back to get a hold of someone else and keep dialing for donuts. But you'll find the info. There's also some websites out there, and I don't have them readily available to me. But I've been told in some of the groups that are around gardening and self-sufficiency and local resilience about this stuff.

15:03 And I would strongly urge people to not buy that stuff because you have no idea. They claim it's safe, but they claimed glyphosate was safe. And it's not. right i mean at least according to court documents it's not right i can't i can't say that for sure because i'm not a part of these you know things but from what i've read it's been proven to be unsafe and and to be honest with you that's not even surprising to me right like pesticides no they're not safe they're safe ineffective no yeah right there we go again go down that road again don't want to do it today it's a beautiful morning man it's cool outside like beautifully cool here it's like 65 or something right now it's just gorgeous carolina blue skies trees are starting to change color i was wondering about that yeah nice yeah my wife enjoys that part the best on the way up there because we don't really have much color change in the leaves no no you you don't no is they gonna have any apples for us when we get up there they're gonna be all gone uh from our trees yeah no they're they're done oh okay yeah that sucks yeah maybe next year we'll we'll we'll get a bunch and leave them you know we'll store them put them in storage but they were pretty good you know they were pretty good

16:37 yeah they just looked ugly they had kind of you know that's all right they were spotty on the outside they looked like they had been dirty but there's nothing dirty about them you know the peel is what it is and i ate it didn't hurt me you're not dead just fine you're turning a zombie nope tasted tasted great i was like well you know let's check it out so cut one in cut into one took a bite and i was like oh that's good yeah it's awesome so we got those the pawpaws are growing the persimmons are growing the plum trees next year i gotta trim out those plum trees badly um but i need to trim the plum trees and get them thinned out a little bit for some airflow and stuff but i mean those things you saw the pictures right i mean there are there's so many plums on those things you we literally have to go and pull off plums when it's when it's just producing them otherwise it won't be able to feed all of the plums and they start dropping off or worse in in some cases there's too many plums on a branch and it'll just bend the branch and snap it all right yeah so i'm really excited about all that stuff in the upcoming year it's it's It's getting there.

17:57 I got to take a picture of that papaya tree for you and show you what that thing's doing. Hopefully it makes it through the cooler season. I don't know. We're kind of like borderline where we are. If we don't have a very cold winter, it should be fine, right? I would think. That would be neat. We'd enjoy that. Yeah, me too. But this is a no-go for us. unless we turn the garage into a greenhouse or something. There you go. That's one, another option. I would like at some point to have a real greenhouse, you know, um, I just, you know, and the geodesic dome, there's a company that actually makes greenhouses that are geodesic domes.

18:44 They're amazing. And they were built for people up in, you know, the northern portions of Canada, right? So you could grow during the winter months. Nice. You still got the vanilla bean plant in your shower, whatever it is, the bathtub? Yeah, yeah, sure do. Yeah. It likes humidity, so every time you go and take a shower, the place gets steamed up a little bit. So it really likes that. And then as far as care, I just have like a sprayer for starts. basically okay you know it's like a hudson sprayer but it's like maybe one gallon not quite a gallon you know yeah we use the big one so like yeah we've got like the one gallon or whatever and just yeah yeah this this is basically made for you know greenhouse type environment and so you know i just used that and missed it until the water droplets start coming off the leaves and that seems to be its happy place. And then probably every two to three weeks, I give them about half of that amount of water and just dump it in. The soil doesn't really retain water, but I like to get it a little saturated. And then they're in terracotta pots, big terracotta pots with the saucer on the bottom.

20:06 So it captures the water, which increases the humidity in the area. I don't know that we'll ever get vanilla beans because my understanding is the vanilla bean wants like 79 to 80 degrees with like a perfect humidity and yeah that's not going to happen but they could live in our laundry room that would be perfect yeah they would die the heat would go too high no i mean that so our laundry room is like slightly hotter than like their air conditioning in the house for some reason but yeah no maybe we should get one for out there oh yeah I mean, hey, they're pretty cool. Except right now it's freezing back there because we have the AC unit in the window for the starts back there to keep it cold.

20:50 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, they're pretty cool. They're vining up and they're doing pretty good. One of them's suffering a little bit because I keep, so we open the blinds and they're just, and we have these blinds that are like the house we rented, right? So it's basically got solid slats and then like a, a, a sheer and then a solid slat and then sheer. And so as you pull them up, you can leave like the solid slats overlapping and you get, you know, windows of sheer. And so I open them up like that to give the things, uh, you know, light, right. Uh, but not direct sunlight.

21:31 But then, you know, if you do that in the summer, you have to be real careful. You can only do it during portion of the time. And if you're like me and you forget things, then the next morning, the sunlight comes directly through that shear. And even though it's coming through shear, the vanilla bean goes, Hey, Hey, I'm going to die. The leaves, the section of leaves you could see like there's, Oh, there's a leaf. There's a leaf. There's wow. Yeah. They must be hard to grow because there's like stupid expensive when you go to buy them. Yeah. Well, they take a very long time to, I think it's, again, it's like an eight. here 18 months or something to produce and they require that 79 to 80 degrees with like you know i don't know you know 70 80 i don't know what it is but a really high humidity level so you know but they're really cool i like them and they you know hey it's it's bringing fresh air into the home so that's true yeah yeah and i'm actually kind of amazed because while i have a somewhat of a green thumb when it comes to gardening and things of that nature uh indoor houseplants i i always kill them always i've always killed always like i had a friend bring me for a housewarming gift when we first moved here uh you know a houseplant and i was like oh dude he's like it's easy you just gotta water it i'm like you say that but every time i have a

23:02 houseplant it dies so we could bring a snake plant we she propagated a bunch of them things a snake plant yeah it's uh i don't know it's got like a big long leaf thing that it's an indoor plant don't take much you know i barely have to water it it's just a big leaf yeah i mean they kind of bunch together they're like you know long all right yeah i was thinking thinking about that Maybe some spider plants would be cool. Because those are really cool because you can just clip one off and propagate the little spider. I can send you a picture of what they are. Okay. Yeah. I mean, hey, if you guys have extra, I'm sure.

23:44 They clean the air is what the thing is with them. They take very minimal maintenance. It's kind of what all plants do. Yeah. I guess these are really good at it, though. Yeah. Okay. Okay. Well hey Because they have big leaves Yeah probably That's probably why I like big leaves And I cannot lie You other brothers can't deny You other plants can't deny Wait no I don't know That's the number one hit I hear it Yeah man You probably might have to pay royalties On that one though Nah because I said big leaves Oh okay It's a parody Now parodies aren't Our free game right Yeah I think so okay yeah at least for now we'll see fair use be fair something yeah it wasn't the same song i changed it it leaves you're gonna royalties everything wants royalties now like so i'm watching this uh what do they call it drm digital rights management all right so they they're starting to put that in everything like dude that's been in everything for decade plus more than a decade almost two yeah two decades i don't know if it's actually falls under that but that's what the video was entitled but anyway like um like your water filter in the refrigerator on these newer refrigerators has a little microchip in it that senses whether you buy aftermarket water filters or um your air purifier yeah you're kidding no no that's that's that's a no

25:18 i'm gonna i'm gonna have to have that's a hard pass thank you very much or or in this case it It was an air filter, and they bought an aftermarket air filter. Because the brand name one was $174 for the filter. And then the aftermarket ones are like... Well, that's because it's got a chip. It has a chip. So the aftermarket ones are $70, except that it sent a message to them that says, your filter will still work, but you'll no longer receive support, and you can't use the app to go along with it that controls the unit if you use these aftermarket air filters. And this is on a what? A vehicle No it looks like an air purifier for a house Air purifier And why does everything need a freaking app I don't know.

26:09 I mean, it's the same thing I've been doing with printer cartridges, too. But why does an air... So I can understand it with a printer cartridge. Because the printer cartridge is going to tell you, hey, the life of your ink is getting low. You might want to think about ordering some stuff, right? rather than the surprise i'm halfway through this critical thing i really need to print and i'm out so let me just get back to that next week when i get my my cartridge delivered or after i get to staples or whatever office max or depot or whatever the heck you know what i mean so that i can kind of understand but like an air purifier turn it on turn it off that's that's it what are you apping are you sitting there checking it i don't know what's my filter level what's the what's the efficiency of my oh what's the that's what they tell you who cares i'm sure the app would be more than happy to order you more filters when it's getting that time too yeah i'm sure too yeah at 175 a piece right yeah just just give us your credit card info own will auto ship every time you need a new one i mean we have a nice air purifier too but it it has none of those things i mean it does have an app it has all that stuff but there's no microchip in the uh the filters not not in the model we have anyway the new ones maybe i'm not really sure yeah i'm not big on that i'm i'm i'm kind of weird well like like you know my truck

27:47 so you as a mechanic will probably be like yeah it's not good but i don't really care because it works out fine it's been working out fine for me and every vehicle i've had with the exception of the uh one that bird got uh i've done this with right the one that bird got was different because it was driven a lot but like my truck i i i put on probably 1200 maybe 1500 miles a year yeah that's very low i do an oil change once a year yeah no i do i do i do as well it's okay i yeah i get full full synthetic so i'm not worried about breakdown with it sitting and and you know any kind of thing like that right and uh once a year and it's usually still pretty darn clean i can probably extend that right because i'm they say three months or you know you know three five thousand miles but you know at the end of the day i've never had an issue with that yeah no we do ours once a year too because we drive four thousand miles a year maybe yeah something like that and if you're synthetic to be honest with you you've got at least 7 000 right i mean the three to five is for non-synthetic oil maybe i i i wouldn't go more than five i mean that's my personal preference but you know yeah i mean do whatever you want to do it's it's i hear what you're saying but i mean full synthetic you're

29:18 you're you're likely very very safe with 7 000 but yeah i would agree 5 000 if you're if you're driving your vehicle and you're you're putting miles on it you should just do this regularly anyway just to if nothing else you're fleshing out any kind of yuck in the system you know yeah it does accumulate like if you don't drive it enough moisture will build up in there um sometimes you know fuel residue can build up in there you know like a the injector squirt a little bit extra in there that'll build up in there and it does become acidic over time so even if you don't drive anywhere it it does you know i've watched some things i mean you could probably honestly if you don't drive it that much you can probably go a couple years but i mean for for the cost of it you know it's cheap yeah you know 40 40 bucks if you do yourself you do your own oil change something like that 40 50 bucks yeah probably 40 yeah probably 50 because you got the oil is is pretty expensive now yeah i mean it depends how much your car takes it's i think for five quarts i was just looking like mobile one is 27 for a five quart thing mine takes like 6.4 so i gotta buy two yeah filter yeah but then you have extras for next time so you only have to buy one i do yeah and i buy my filters in bulk yeah when they're on sale that's cheaper that way yeah i was thinking about a time i you know a friend of mine was dating a girl and uh she

30:54 she wanted to put oil in her car so she did oh boy well it ceased functioning it didn't cease functioning but it wasn't running right right um and we were trying to figure out why and she said well you know i put oil in it because you know it was low it turns out that she filled like you know where you put the oil in you could see the valves and everything like there was oil above that she just kept pouring oil into it until it was full because she didn't know there's a dipstick no it was not good at all what's amazing is it was it did still kind of run but not well not well yeah yeah for a while at least i mean she didn't try and drive it much because when she started it up it was sputtering and blue smoke everywhere everywhere i i can imagine yeah yeah and then surprised it didn't like hydro lock the thing because yeah like liquids don't really compress no no no when i was working at the my like my very first real job like working for someone that gave me a paycheck on a weekly basis type of a thing not like construction type stuff where it was cash primarily uh the uh we had a lady an older lady came in in a cadillac right this is back in the

32:25 80s okay and uh she went and filled her car up with diesel and back then the the gas tanks didn't have like the special like the nozzles weren't different sizes there wasn't like the oh it doesn't fit type stuff you know what i mean yeah bad bad she goes well what do i do and i'm like i would call a tow truck and a mechanic yeah that's exactly what i would do because you're going to need to completely drain and flush lines i mean that's not as bad as the other way around though putting uh that's gas in a diesel that'll totally mess you up yeah big bomb yeah that'll destroy your injector but it's a lot more expensive yeah the injectors are gone the injector pump's gone and you know she was like freaking out and i'm like it's not going to be that big of a deal you're just going to have to disconnect your lines empty the tank and then drain and flush essentially yeah it might smoke a little bit for a little bit yeah oh yeah okay a little two-stroke in the uh throw a little mix in there it's just 30 to 1 it's fine nice i have seen videos of guys accidentally uh putting that diesel exhaust fluid into their diesel tanks that stuff's nasty oh gnarly yeah on a newer truck if you if you smoke your uh fuel system like that you're looking at tens of thousands of dollars to replace all that stuff oh i imagine so especially if it comes

33:57 to injectors i mean those injectors nowadays are are pretty sciencey things yeah no they're expensive you got like eight of them in there unless you get a dodge you get six but yeah the The injector pumps aren't cheap either. Yeah. Yep. Yep. What are you going to do, though? I don't know. Probably enough car talk, unless people like car talk. I don't know. I could probably talk about cars for a while. No? What are we going to talk about then? I don't know. If we're not talking about cars. I can talk about cars all you want. Fast cars and fast-growing plants, man. Like radishes.

34:37 I'm excited for radishes, dude. Oh, my goodness. I love radishes. Absolutely love them. I like, you know, the alums are one of my brassicas, alums, right? So brassica, for people who don't know, that's like cabbage and kale and broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower. These are all brassicas. Swiss chard? Is that a brassica? I don't think it's a brassica. I'm not positive. But I don't think so. but i love swiss chard swiss chard to me is a spinach that's worth it that's what swiss chard is like you can get this huge harvest of spinach and you go to saute it and you get like you know this little teeny piece like this much on your plate like a whole pan full of spinach over full of spinach and it comes out to like you know this much and you split that between two people and Like it's barely anything.

35:36 Chard, on the other hand, maintains a lot of its structure, right? So you saute it, it wilts just like this. And I think it has a taste very similar to spinach. And it has a nutritional profile, very similar. Not quite as good as spinach, not quite as dense. But that structure allows you to use far less of it and get, you know, a good amount of food. And so I really love Swiss chard. I think it's wonderful. Oh, and we've got sweet potatoes. We've got to get out of the ground hopefully soon. We do too. Yeah. Yeah. Like those guys. Because they just sit in the garage all winter. You just go pick a few out. You're done.

36:17 They do raise your blood sugar a little bit, though. Yeah. Probably. A little bit of a glycemic index to them, I think. They're also like a big-time superfood. You know? I mean, they're so good for you. Nutrient-dense and everything. And I don't, you know, at least now, don't have any kind of a, you know, sugar issue. So I don't really worry about things like that. And they're, I think, better in general for you than a standard potato. Because those things spike the hell out of your... Yeah, definitely.

36:58 Yeah. Now, if you have to choose one over the other, definitely choose the sweet potato. Yeah. So I'm kind of excited to try some sweet potato fries in the air fryer. Right? So not fried fries. Let's do some steak fries. How about kale? Do you like kale? I do in certain circumstances. I can't say I'm a huge fan of kale, but I do like kale. My wife was on a kale kick. We grew it, and it actually grew pretty well. made a bunch of salads with it it grows great and that's it right you can throw some throw some in a salad is my kind of thing right not all all kale like a kale salad to me would not be very tasty but having some kale in the salad gives it a different texture a little little different of a flavor and i like it um kale chips are actually really good we have a big dehydrator so you know just you know kind of spray it spritz them a little water so you can get stuff to stick and throw some seasoning on there whatever you want i might have to try that throw it in the dehydrator and then you've got something that's like a chip um it's not the same but you know it's still it's good it quiets that snacky urge you know what i mean and it's healthy my wife likes the crunchy stuff she she bought some uh seaweed chip thing to try she did not like that very fishy yeah she did not like it at all yeah i'm not a fan but then again i i grew up

38:36 you know right on basically right around the ocean so i thought it was okay but yeah yeah um but kale kale's much better it doesn't have that taste um but you know you you want to harvest them young right don't let them get super big they're they're okay for salads or if you want to cook with them if they big but you know younger leaves will be better for chips yeah all right yeah the chickens also love it you peel a couple leaves off for them and yeah they thought it was party time oh yeah they they love most vegetables man just love them that's one of the things with the sweet potatoes we grow them in in these fire rings they're between 32 and 36 inches right across and they're they're basically just a you know a metal ring if you will that uh you know we just plop anywhere we put hardware cloth down to keep the voles out of there and they are voles not moles moles eat insects and are completely great for your garden you don't have to worry about them voles eat roots they are not good for your garden at all all right so and they don't care about insects so uh but that keeps the voles out of there, which will chew through a bunch of sweet potato. Um, then we put, you know, whatever soil and grow our sweet potatoes and the vines grow up along this fence and the raised bed garden is like our yard is, is kind of long like this. And at the end of it is a gate, right? And

40:12 then the actual fence continues on a bit further. And this little area is all raised bed garden, right and then there's another gate that goes to the chicken yard so in the winters if we're not growing in the raised bed garden we open the chicken yard gate the chickens come in and they fertilize and till and get rid of all of the vegetation it's just you know nothing but dirt left all right and and uh but the sweet potato vines grow up along that fence between the the raised bed garden and the chicken you know yard i'm gonna say because it's a pretty big yard for these chickens and uh they love it man they'll come up and eat the leaves off of the other side of it and that kind of helps control a little bit of them it's really cool it's a cool system those sweet potatoes sure can grow some uh some vines and leaves and things are pretty prolific yeah they are yeah for sure they'll like take over the whole garden if we didn't if we let them i'm sure yeah they're in those raised beds yep and that's a perfect place for them that's why we do them in the little container you know things because in one of those i can plant five just five slips and the whole thing will be full of sweet potatoes if we did it right if we you know missed watering or we screw up on something then well you know we get vines and the chickens get vines and at the end of the year they get to go in and clean out the vines if we're not harvesting potatoes then

41:42 they can clean them out they almost seem sort of like semi-invasive i think they could probably just take over if you if you let them i would once you have them in there they're kind of in there they're coming back yeah yep yeah and again if we if we go and start harvesting and the harvest isn't so great we'll likely just mulch the top of it next next year the hope is that the what's left in there the roots and any potatoes will sprout maybe maybe not we'll see if not it'll just be extra organic material in the soil that'll break down and create lovely soil they're almost like those chadwick tomatoes i'm thinking you can't get rid of them they're like hey we live here now yeah like we live everywhere now what is that yes it's a tomato plant we we have tomato plants grow that just grow everywhere like you just be walking along in the field and there's a tomato sprouting you're like what well because we i kind of have this whole thing right like and if i walk up on on fruit uh from from a plant right like tomato or something uh and it's no good it's it's split badly or it's got some you know bug or you know whatever right i'll pull it off and just kind of toss it into the field well okay they just grow you know you didn't do anything so we do that with

43:16 everything we do that with everything and it's kind of great because the next year all kinds of volunteer plants just start popping up out of everywhere like all right you don't mess with them you don't do anything with them sometimes they die sometimes they live and produce a bunch of fruit it's just free food you did nothing nothing i think i get more acclimated to where you're at too like if you keep yeah going oh they do they do like the compost tomatoes get better and better you know as long as but we don't take care of them so if we have like this year where we went like a month with no rain yeah okay we're probably not going to do so well but we do have uh we have a grape tomato that that came came up this year that we haven't touched it's got we've gotten you know for a month we had no rain and we were harvesting beautiful tomatoes off of this thing and i'm like i don't know how but okay you're doing it guy you keep going got a whole got a whole bunch for salad last night there's still a bunch on it we're gonna grab for salad tonight it's it's pretty awesome it's free food it is free food that's the awesome part about it it's like you just grow you just grew well on your own i never even looked at you and then all of a sudden one day i see red and i'm like hey let me go look over oh look there's a bunch of tomatoes let's get let's get these now you just need like a field full of cows that make more cows that would be nice yeah we need a little bit more acreage though i got you know i don't want to have

44:48 um livestock that we we must subs uh subsidize with hay you know what i mean in in certain circumstances you can't avoid that right like middle of winter when everything's dormant you might have to, right? But it depends seasonally and it depends on what, what is growing in your pasture. And for us, what's growing in the pasture is everything. Like everything. If you, if you just name a grass, it's there. Name, name a weed. It's probably there too. Regionally that is. Obviously if it doesn't grow here, it's not there, but you know, Johnson grass, Swergham, Sudan grass. I mean, you know, we've got zebra grass, we've got freaking Bermuda grass out there.

45:33 We've got winter rye, we've got fescue, we've got, you name it. And that biodiversity is what keeps our animals in good shape with pasture. but you know putting another cow on there would probably take us a little bit over the edge of what we could expect to feed on that pasture space now if we rehab it well and we set it up into quadrants and we rotated them through and everything like that we could probably make it work right but then we're we're gonna have to go out there and do that on a regular basis and And, you know, the horses kind of like the big back pasture a lot because they can run around.

46:17 And so maybe a little bit more property and we can we can do that. I would say about, you know, I'd like to have maybe another 10 acres for, you know, cows, cattle. Barry. And then I also do want a longhorn. I really do. i want a longhorn but that's not going to be for anything other than just a pet just big big goofy pet and it's it's going to be the coolest it's going to be my pet it's going to love me they probably go the same way as the goats you're supposed to be for eating and they just end up all being pets anyway no we we actually uh yeah that was early on and that was Mainly because my wife, and she still is, right?

47:09 I mean, we both are. We're really animal lovers, right? But I grew up on a farm when I was young, you know? So I got the lesson real quick. This is food, this is pet. And there is a big difference. You want to be just as nice to your food as you are to your pets. You want to treat them well. You want to give them the best life you possibly can. but at the end of a specific amount of time it's going to you know be cold and processed for food and that's what keeps us going um my wife not so much not not that mindset not at all nope nope nope can't can't do it nope we're not doing that yeah i'm with her i don't i don't know man it's it would be a hard uh hard thing for me yeah it's pet not pet i'm sure i would adapt but i mean at first it would probably be difficult yeah and that that's what it took for her right and then she got like she couldn't even stand the thought of calling a chicken and she got to the point where she can go do it by herself okay so you know she's she's good with that and she's gotten to the point where she's like yeah okay we can do that i don't i don't have heartburn so you know we still have the uh the wishbone from our first turkey that we you know uh raised and then harvested and then subsequently ate it was a very tasty turkey but it was gigantic because

48:43 oh boy there was a period of time where they decided that oh my gosh we can't have these small processors, they might, you know, there might be food safety issues and we can't inspect them all. So it's illegal to do it now. And only the big processors could be done. Well, we weren't set up to process turkeys. That's a whole different ballgame, right? It's a big, much bigger bird. We don't have kill cones for them, which is just basically a cone that you hang, we have one on a post. And if you hang a chicken upside down, it will start to relax and be pretty chill. And then you take it, fold its wings and drop it down like this and its head comes out the bottom. And so it's chill, it's relaxed, it'll, you know, kind of resist it first in the cone and then it'll just kind of chill out and then you just, and into a bucket. And, And, you know, at this point, you've taken care of that.

49:42 Well, the turkey doesn't fit in the dang cone at all, not even a little bit. So, yeah, we had to take them to get processed. And so there was a big period of time, like six months, where we couldn't get them processed because of this stupid regulation. And then they finally realized after people are like having to toss, they're having to cull animals without being able to process them. okay so if you think of the worst case scenario so it's a waste all the way around exactly and so they finally came back and said okay we're going to allow small processors to exist again and we got them processed but the the birds literally uh like 32 pounds dressed so how do you how do you cook that does it even fit in the oven oh i smoked it so okay yeah yeah yeah i hit we gave a couple out cause I think we, we harvested, uh, 11 of them, I think.

50:45 And so we gave a couple out and one guy was like, dude, I had to take everything out of my oven and put the rack on the very bottom thing to even fit the dang thing in the oven. Right. That's what I was wondering. Like, would it even fit in there? Like a standard oven? Yeah. It would be, yeah. How long does that take? Uh, a while. Yeah. Yeah. So, and then we had, uh, another friend that just said, yeah, I didn't even bother. I broke it down. Legs, thighs, breasts, you know, et cetera. And they said it was great, you know. That's probably what I would do. Yeah. Well, we smoked the whole thing, and it turned out really well. It was really good. Too much food, but it was really good.

51:25 Instead of, you know, one turkey made, like, a huge amount of stock afterwards, too. So it was really nice. You doing a turkey this year for Thanksgiving? I don't know what we'll do. We might, we might. Our flock has had some setbacks, so we're hopefully not too far away from having a self-sustaining flock that'll allow us to harvest to call turkeys. But right now, primary goal is getting to a place where we have enough new hatched turkeys every year to actually do that without needing to provide inputs from outside, to, you know, keep the flock going.

52:09 So right now, if we start harvesting them, we're going to lose, you know, we'll have a problem. Yeah. We won't be able to have to buy more turkeys. And that's, that's a problem to me. Right. So, and, and a lot of this is personal choice as well. Like we could go and just nab a clutch and hatch out 10, 12 turkeys and they'd all probably hatch and then we could keep them alive and keep them in a pen and grow them and, you know, have turkey. But that's not how we want to farm, right? I want turkeys that are naturally hatching, which they do. We have that. And I want them to produce a flock sufficient enough to where we can in the next couple of years, hopefully we can take, you know, a couple few birds a year and then within a couple few years we can take you know maybe a dozen birds a year and that way we'd have one turkey per month that'd be good that's a good goal to have yeah well if you think about it a turkey will feed it's just two of us right so a turkey will feed the two of us for a good solid three three four five days right um and then all of that you know, material that's left over goes into this. I have a huge stock pot that goes into the stock pot with some vegetables, you know, basically aromatics essentially, because, you know, but nutrients as well goes in there. And then we make, you know, turkey stock and,

53:43 you know, that comes out and then all the leftovers go to compost, right. Which provides calcium for the plants and, you know, a number of other nutrients. And that turkey stock will probably get, you know, uh, we'll probably get 16 quarts out of that. And so we've got 16, you know, quarts of stock that we can just go make turkey soup at any time, you know? So it, it, it's one of those things we really think about how, how can we make the best out of all of this? Right? Like people say, don't buy steak with bones on it. Don't buy whatever with bones. Dude, those bones are golden, right? I know you can go get cheap, you know, frozen, you know stew bones or whatever soup bones but these things have been sitting in a freezer for who knows how long years a decade nobody knows right i mean seriously especially dependent on where you live like out here they probably rotate through them more because people out here tend to do things like make their own beef stock and stuff like that but you know most people probably don't right so they're getting it for their soup or their stew or their you know whatever um yeah so we do stuff like that we'll get primal cuts so that we do include bones we you know and then we save our own bones and then we make beef stock you know yeah make make full use of it it's it's good stuff and and if you if you make bone broth that stuff is power house right and and i love to make

55:19 bone broth love that stuff yeah my wife makes that as well it's it's good oh it's so amazing for you so many nutrients is just a wonderful wonderful thing you know it's got some some good fats in it you know it's got you know minerals it's got you know all sorts of stuff in it that's just wonderful for your body. You know? We actually quite often will use bone broth as opposed to stock for soups. All right. Yeah. There's virtually no difference, right? Because the difference is this.

55:59 Most people will make bone broth, but they won't add any aromatics to it. Right? It's just the bone. All right. We will add aromatics to it so that it then becomes a bone stock, if you will. Right. So we'll add some extra meat particles in there, you know, trimmings. We'll add some, you know, onions and carrots and maybe a little bit of celery and some thyme, a little bit of rosemary, some garlic, you know, some onion. And we'll cook it down just like we would regular bone broth. But then it's got all those other things that give it that, you know, that aromatic appeal. right and then that translates into i can easily make this be a stock nice it's just a thicker more fatty more nutrient-dense stock yeah yeah no that's a great idea yeah you should try it i might try it give it a go you won't be disappointed i'll give you your money back if it doesn't work money back guarantee oh you didn't buy anything so but still money back on the nothing that you spend this podcast has a money back guarantee you don't like it we'll give you money back absolutely 100 purchase price we'll give you your purchase price plus 200 whatever you paid us directly to watch this podcast we will refund you if you are unhappy that's right

57:30 oh man just like uh that other company we were using the before this before this one did you get refunded on that i did yeah you did all right refund yeah they were actually pretty understanding okay that's good because i had put in support cases all throughout this and when i wrote them about it i explained my journey trying to overcome these issues and all at their direction and i'm And like, you know, not only have I spent, you know, a good amount of money trying to overcome the problems that now I recognize as being your service, not my gear.

58:14 And so they basically said, yes, we'll start the process of the refund. Here's a refund amount. And, you know, we'll keep your account as the free version for, I think, 90 days. And you can go download anything you want to download, whatever. But you're on free version now. So you're going to be capped and blah, blah, blah. That's fine. I haven't even logged on since because I download every episode. Okay. The files. Yeah. You were telling me you get like almost a terabyte of files at this point? Yeah. Yeah. 800 and some odd gigs of just content from us so far. Wow.

58:55 Yeah. at some point this is going to require like a big drive set up, you know, like maybe a 16 terabyte NAS or something network attached storage. Yeah. Yeah. Can you put it on like floppies? Floppies. I can't even imagine, you know, Oh, that would be like weeks of doing that for just one of these things. Seriously. What do those things hold? Those little, uh, the little square ones, the hard ones, the three and a half inch. i don't recall i want to say they're one and a half yeah they're 1.544 megabytes wow yeah so i remember back in the day i was taking some pictures and like i got this new camera and then like i fit like i don't 10 pictures on one of them things i'm like that's it that's all it's gonna fit on there yeah it's kind of crazy yeah you'd be far better off going to zip drives you remember those things zip drives i remember i they had like dude it was it was bigger than an sd card it was i don't even know what it was but yeah it took like several different formats it had like a little reader thing that you i don't know yeah had a few different slots on it yeah i'll probably just get like 16 terabyte nas that has you know like you know a mirrored disc or something or maybe i'll go with something with a raid level protection that has multiple like four disks.

1:00:21 All that stuff is like I have no idea what you're talking about. So mirrored disks essentially is just literally you have two hard drives you mirror them every time you write a file it writes to both. So everything is copied on both disks and the idea is you lose one disk and you've still got your whole copy of data. Raid is it's an initialism or acronym, whatever you want to call it. It stands for Redundant Array of Independent Discs. And so in that case, you really want four, but three would suffice, but I would go four. But basically what you're doing is you're taking your discs that you're writing to, it doesn't concatenate really, but it kind of does.

1:01:09 It makes it so that in a four-drive situation, And three of those would be written to. And then one of them gets parity. So actually parity striped across all of them. Sorry, not one of them. So but you lose a whole drive's worth of space. Right. But that's due to parity being striped. And so if you lose a disk, it can rebuild that disk from the parity across all of the other drives. So you can go back to a fully redundant state. Hmm. Yeah. I don't know. I mean, at some point, is it worth it to keep all that stuff? I know a few months ago, my mother handed me some paperwork, and I'm like, what is this?

1:01:51 She's like, I was cleaning out some stuff, and I found this. I'm like, what is it? It's like my tax return. She helped me from the early 90s from my very first job. And I'm like, what do I need this stuff for? A tax return from 1993. Fred that, burn it. I'm like, I don't need that. Whatever, yeah. Yeah. Um, you know, I, I think, uh, you know, yeah, I, I would like to keep it, you know, because it our content and it would be nice to have it Um I not going to go to extraordinary links you know but you know it it would be nice to have it yeah what is the biggest size of one of those um zip or you know like well is that what they call a zip drive or the little uh like usb thumb drives or one of them things yeah what's the biggest one of them things they make now you know i'm not entirely positive i know they were talking talking for a while about terabyte size so i imagine they probably have terabyte size but the problem is they're slow they're very slow all right yeah what's the next size up from terabyte what what like what are we gonna have in 10 years we have what is it petabytes that's the next step up from terabyte yeah yeah terabyte to petabyte from petabyte to exabyte and there are organizations out there that definitely have exabyte plus data wow yeah wow yeah it's it's that's big that's a that's a lot that's a that's a lot that's a thousand petabytes you know

1:03:27 and how many uh terabytes is in a petabyte a thousand oh okay that's a lot that probably do you yeah it's yeah well i don't need that much but yeah i mean you know having you know 100 terabytes probably wouldn't be harmful but at this at this point you know it looks like it's taken us you know five almost six months to come up to it'd probably be about six months per terabyte so if i had something like 16 terabytes i'd be happy with that i don't need to keep it all forever and at some point i might just throw it onto a worm type of a drive like dvds or something just spam dvds with it yeah how much can you fit on a dvd it's not a whole lot but you know oh okay you can sit there and do like a backup of something and you it'll fill up on dvd and that's disc one disc two disc three all right uh with application right um you know certainly don't want these online out out on a cloud somewhere and the only real reason for that is it's just a terrible experience trying to bring that much data back you know because these these companies aren't giving you like you know uber amounts of bandwidth to pull stuff back so you're going to be way throttled right and you're just going to be sitting there chugging along and eventually it'll disconnect your your system will do an update you'll reboot your you know your your

1:04:58 internet provider will have an outage whatever the case is and then you're just yeah back to okay let me download more and i remember trying to do this with just images right that i was storing on a on an online service and trying to get them all back was ridiculous and then my last system uh i built uh for with a asus motherboard and as part of their whole package um they actually had like a cloud service that you could utilize well they ended up dropping that and they gave me like, you know, I don't know, 30 or 60 days to go get all my stuff out of their cloud. I couldn't. I couldn't.

1:05:39 So they're like, well, we realize some people are having some challenges. So for, you know, this much cash, we'll actually put it on media and then ship it to you. And I'm like, I should have just done that in the first place. Yeah. I see. I'm a big fan of having my stuff in my hands on my system. you know i don't care about one drive i don't care about all that stuff i don't want it nope nope nope nope nope so how big is like a modern day um a a graded you know like a video game that they release because a lot of those are just digital downloads now right i mean you can get the the physical media but how long does it take to download one of them things downloading it really isn't that bad oh okay they they provide a fairly decent amount of bandwidth but yeah they're they're like 100 200 gigs yeah oh are they that big all right the newer ones yeah yeah wow yeah that's crazy it's big stuff there's a lot going on in there you know all the physics that goes into it and you know um you know the the wireframe the shading the textures the lighting the all of that stuff just you know consumes a lot of, you know, data for it, right?

1:07:03 So, yeah, big stuff. Really fun, though. Do you actually own it if you just download it, though? Well, that's questionable at this point, right? And there's a huge community up in arms, and they're pissed, and rightfully so, right? Because companies are saying, well, you don't own it. You just own the digital rights to use it, right? And they're like, well, no, I purchased the game. And they're like, nah, you purchased the digital rights to use it. And then people are like, well, all right, I'm just going to go get these free copies over here. And they're like, that's piracy. And they're like, if buying it doesn't mean I own it, then using it doesn't mean I'm pirating it.

1:07:46 And I'm like, that's a bad argument, but I see where you're going, right? If buying it means, you know, no. And so a lot of them are coming up with subscriptions. Like you pay a sub and then you get access to the titles, but every month you have to pay money. So, yeah, I'm not a big fan of any of this stuff. I miss the days of just getting media that had a game on it. And I'd be okay if that was a thumb drive right now. Here's your thumb drive and boom, you plug it into your system and you're good to go. I don't like the subscription model for everything. There are areas where that works, like service providers, like your internet.

1:08:28 Okay, that works. It's a model that I can get along with, right? You're not buying this. You are literally, you know, renting that bandwidth. You're renting that connection. You're renting all of the infrastructure in between, right? But when it comes to like a movie or a game, a vehicle, right? Subscription? Are you freaking kidding me? Come on. You want to use those heated seats that your car came with? Pay a subscription every month. I would just be very unhappy. I would go find someone with a bulldozer and just crush the freaking car and drop it back off at the dealership.

1:09:09 I mean, what is the rationale? I guess they figure if you can afford a brand new car, you can afford to pay the monthly fee on the heated seats. Yeah, I don't know. It just blows my mind. I don't know. I would just be like, well, if I'm not able to use them, then I want the car without them. Yeah. Well, we don't sell it without them. All right, well then, bye. I'm going somewhere else. People need to, you know, you don't need to, you do whatever you want. But the only thing that's going to get us away from this kind of crap is if enough people start not buying into it. But they won't. You know, people are addicted to ease of use and comfort and, you know, silliness.

1:09:56 Silliness. I think people are addicted to just buying crap. I don't know. You control your fridge with a freaking app and it's Wi-Fi connected. Why? Why? Why? At what point did this become acceptable? Like someone at some point went, oh, that's a really cool idea. And we could put a TV screen on it too. Like, what do you, are you literally standing in front of your refrigerator watching TV while you're, what, snacking or something? Like, get a life. Yeah. I'm sorry. Hmm. I don't understand it myself. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah. My freaking stove has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

1:10:36 I'm like, really? Come on. No. What the hell, dude? i don't want it i have no use for it i don't want it but it's getting hard to even get the stuff without it yeah yeah and it's like we've talked about with vehicles right i mean my my truck's probably kind of right on the cusp of that stuff right yeah oh nine so you know i don't know that i would buy a vehicle newer than 2010 at this point yeah just just because i'm on that fence myself. I don't want all that stuff. Like you said, you know what? That gigantic screen that controls everything.

1:11:18 What do you just not have control of your vehicle after that? Like, I'd like to use my AC, but this screen is borked and, you know, so too bad. So sad. Dude, talking about AC. Oh, these new car systems. Holy cow. Especially in the hybrids. Oh, yeah? Yeah. So, like, you got like a Prius, right? You think it's, you know, No, I don't have a Prius, but okay. I mean, but you know, it's not a super expensive high-end car, but like the AC system on that thing, if it goes kaput on you, dude, you're looking at like $8,000. Oh, no way.

1:11:58 Because it's not just like a compressor and, you know, an evaporator and a condenser. Dude, they have heat exchangers and their heat pump systems. Why? Why? The parts are very, very expensive. Yes. Why, though? Oh, I guess this is probably all part of the green stuff, right? Well, they get electric-driven compressors. They're not belt-driven. And then if a technician uses the wrong oil in it, even, it'll short it out, and then it's done. And you're looking at like $6,000 to $8,000. You're kidding me. Nope. yeah I the more the more I look into you know the whole like hey look electric vehicles are me in the right circumstance for the right thing for the right person in the right place with limited use case great i think they great right i mean if you a commuter you go to work you come home it all within your range you just kind of stay in the same area and everything and you've got you know a solar setup and you plug your vehicle in you're not paying for any of this and that's that's great right and i hear the battery life on them now is pretty lengthy and stuff like that but in general i just don't see the use. I just don't. I don't see the utility of, of these vehicles, uh, for most people, at least where I am. Right. I just don't see it. Um, and maybe that's me, you know, people try and

1:13:30 convince me all the time. And then I'm like, yeah, you know, what about when I want to go see my buddy in, in, you know, Florida, I tell you what, I'll take my truck and, and I guarantee you'll be there way faster than you way faster there's just absolutely no possible way you're going to get there faster than me and there are other concerns that these owners don't really seem to like kind of want to talk about for some reason they like electricity is not free it does there is a charge involved with that and when it's actually fairly low cost if if if it's set up right and you have the charger at home and everything else it's actually fairly low cost is low it's lower cost than it is for gasoline the cost of of fuel um so you can do that but again like what i was saying is if you have a home solar system and battery and all that stuff and you're using that to charge your vehicle and you do it at night you get home you plug it in the battery feeds your vehicles morning sun comes up during the day you're storing power and you're essentially getting this like this and you you live in you know a suburban uh urban type environment and this is your you know i'm going to work and back i'm going to grocery store i'm going shopping but i'm you know not taking a trip you know a nine hour drive i think that's that's a reasonable reason for them i guess um i do like the hybrids though like the prius i think was it was i think it's a

1:15:02 a great feat of engineering and, and, you know, you've got a car that's not super expensive. Uh, it does take fuel. So you're not going to have that same issue where, you know, I've got a, I got to stop for an hour for what I got to fill up. Well, an hour. Well, yeah. And now her, you know what I mean? So they've got the engine and you've also got the ability to increase gas mileage during you know city travel etc using the the hybrid portion of that right regenerative braking you've got a lot of these cool things in this little uh fairly inexpensive commuter cars what i would call it you know i think that's a great idea toyota hybrids are pretty good from what i've seen i've never owned one but from everything i've seen that they're pretty decent and the battery life seems to be fairly long yeah before you have to get into it like 10 15 years before you have to worry about starting to replace cells yeah i had a buddy that had a prius and it was great i mean he was getting you know a ridiculously good mileage you know and and there's no charging right you don't have to plug it in right so because we've we've rented a van last year it was a chrysler pacifica van well the van wasn't horrible it was a hybrid but it was only a hybrid if you plug it in like it didn't generate any of it driving so like also you had to plug it in and charge up the batteries to be able to use the batteries for

1:16:36 your hybrid solution if you wanted to do that and then like the the range on it was like 115 miles like how good is that those are meant to so the worst the worst gas mileage you're ever going to get is city driving period stop start stop start stop start stop start just terrible mileage those are meant to offer someone like the soccer mom etc forgive me soccer moms and karens don't forget the karens got it peace out to the karens but you know it's meant for people like that right and it doesn't have to be a mom it can be a you know soccer dad too right i mean you know i guess but you know it's meant for that type of a scenario where you can plug it in and then all that driving happens on electricity in hybrid fashion and you plug it in but then when you need to go on a trip it's just gas right you get a prius on the freeway it's not using the electric at all none unless you come to a stop right and then you'll use electric for a little bit as you start up etc and then the motor will kick in you know yeah yeah i mean the worst thing on that van is is we thought we were going to get like the stow and go seats because you go on chrysler site and they all have stow and go seats except the hybrid because underneath that is the battery so like the seats don't even fold up and you know they had no room to put our crap you know had three rows of seats that you know we really didn't need yeah don't get the hybrid

1:18:09 next time and just oh we didn't have a choice it's like whatever they give you when you get to your house with it. So go to the place, come back to your house, pull all the seats out, and then come. Nah, I don't got room for that crap. We're getting a SUV this time. You have room. You cleaned out your garage, kind of. I'm working on it. A little bit. A little bit. A little bit at a time. Well, it was, you know, from the first time I saw it to the second time, it was less densely populated. Yeah, no, I got to get rid of a bunch of junk. It's going well. getting there get rid of some big items you got rid of a welder better i did get rid of a welder i found some sucker to take that thing sucker yeah then you're gonna show me believe it's been almost a year and you haven't even used it because i'm waiting for you to come up and show me that was the deal you said you were going to show me how to use it while you were up here all right yeah next month man i'm gonna i'm gonna be a welder there you go teach teach me how i'm gonna go get a job as a welder right after that and you're like oh yeah like lx taught me for like an hour so i'm totally kind of component critical yeah job yeah yeah like structural stuff yeah absolutely i'm in dude lx taught me for an hour i'm an expert i'm professional anyway what do you got planned for the rest of the day anything good some chores around the farm We're running around all over the place today.

1:19:42 Ooh, Costco day? Today will be Costco day. We've got to go down, pick up a slab of wood with some metal attached to it, which you'll get to see when you come up. I think you'll like it. As well as, what else did we have? Oh, we've got to go to the pool store. I've got to get muriatic acid to clean the salt cell, get the salt blank in place for the winter. and need some salt to put in the pool. Keep the salt level up so when we crank it on in the spring, it's got salt in there and we should be good. What else?

1:20:22 There was something else we were going to do. We're going all over the place. For us to go to where real civilization is, I guess. we have to hitch up the wagon and go into town right it's a it's an hour drive we've got small town around us like you know i mean monroe's not not small small but it's it's certainly not a big place right there's a lot that isn't there you know so we're going to be running around most of the day and then uh later on this evening we're going to be on live looks like we're just going have to do it on the youtubes because uh i i can't right now we could do it on x and telegram but youtube still hasn't gone okay you're you're you're connected so by the time they see this it'll have happened already so if you missed our live stream maybe we'll have another one in the future yeah if you were on our live stream thanks for showing up i hope you won something exactly Yeah. Yep. Yep. So we'll have live stream this evening. This is a Saturday, October 4th. We will have the live stream at 5 30 PM. When you see this, it'll be at least next Friday and you will be hearing about the live stream we had last week, but don't fear. We are prepared. We have contingencies. If nobody shows up, then what we're going to do is just, I don't know, I guess.

1:21:52 cry in the corner no we'll just talk to ourselves for a while and then uh you know we'll reschedule one and probably try and promote it a little bit harder yeah we could have probably did a better job at that well our social media manager over here is uh you know falling down on the job he doesn't like social media so he's not the best social media manager but we're hiring right now he's what we can afford we're hiring a social media manager we're looking for one right yeah the pay is not great let me tell you straight up excellent uh hours zero pay yeah no yeah yeah to be to be fair yeah we we we don't really yeah can't do that so here we are we have no social media manager other than two of us And we have no editor other than, well, me.

1:22:53 And, you know, LX wants to help. But, again, technically. But you're great at it. I think you're fantastic at it. Well, you're so sweet. Thank you. It would be nice to have a little help on some of it. But anyway you know hey we pull it together I think it doing pretty good We make it look nice for you all and try and keep you entertained a little bit give you some goofiness a little slapstick and some serious talk as well This last episode came out, you know, last night, a little spicy in there, a little bit of spice. A little bit of an emotional roller coaster. Yeah, for sure. For sure. This one is a little more tame.

1:23:33 A lot more tame. Yeah. Very, very chill. This is back to the chill us. Let me pull out my list here. Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, I can't hear you. I got a few keywords I could set to, you know. Let's see, government. That's all it takes. Maybe we should just call it quits before we go down the road. We're going to. There's no need to get spicy. We got extra spicy. So now we can be the super mild salsa, like, you know, like Southern salsa, you know, not like California salsa, like Southern salsa, where mild means like less spicy than ketchup.

1:24:25 So, yeah. We're probably going to go visit our in-laws today. She just said her mother-in-law had one of her eyes, the cataracts done. So she's healing from that. are you gonna go arrr yeah no you're like a clear eye patch thing you gotta go something like a real eye patch dude you gotta go stop by one of those spirit stores okay you get one of those little those little pirate things you can put your hand in and it's got the little hook on it mm-hmm right just get one of those there's like two bucks or something grab one of those and bring it over hand it to her and just go arrr matey nice I think they might she went for a follow-up yesterday She might have got the eye patch taken off.

1:25:07 I'm not really sure how that works. Or you just walk in the door. Yeah, you're not allowed to like bend over or nothing for like three days. You can't tie your shoes. Yeah. You don't want the blood pressure in your head to go up. Yeah. You just walk in the door. Besides that, everything went good. You walk in the door and you go, yo-ho. Terrible. No? Come on. I would. totally but i'm i guess maybe not a nice person i think i'm a nice person i just you're nice enough mostly i think so i like me so there you go that's all that matters my wife sticks around so you know i've got everything i need i like myself my wife seems to like me well enough to stick around so i'm good good that makes me that makes me a nice person absolutely she might have a contingency plan i don't know well well yeah i wow hadn't really thought of that could could be you might you might very well be right on that one i don't know i mean it would make sense you know she's definitely way way out of my league you know this is just i you know i aimed up and it worked and here i am so hey excellent that's that's the best way to do it you just shoot your shot you know give it give it a

1:26:38 shot worst worst case it's a no hey all right move on so one of my favorite sayings like what's the worst thing that could happen right yeah yeah in in those cases is is there's nothing bad that's going to happen. I mean, you know, you might get your feel hurt for a moment if, if, if you, but it's up to you if you want to just internalize that and take it in. This is not, you know, it's not, you know, I always like this, you know, like guilt is a big one, right? Guilt is a choice. You know, if I gave you a big old sandwich of guilt, you can set it down. You don't have to eat it but if you want to you can sit there and just cherish that really relish it and take your time with it and hold on to it and pack it away for later and have a little bit later and pull it out whenever you want to take a little bite you don't have to so i choose not to too early to start thinking that deep today maybe later all right well maybe on the live stream we can get in some of that who here or whatever i don't know maybe we can guilt the people into watching right well we're gonna be a week late we should have tried this last week right oh whoops so if you if you guys didn't watch this one and you missed it you should feel guilty and you should feel horrible about yourself yes and make sure you don't miss the next one right right

1:28:09 you just have to get back into it commit work harder I don't know yeah well hey you know hey it's a wonderful day out man I'm excited we're gonna go run around we're gonna go pick up some stuff we're gonna get some staples at Costco not actual staples you know like the staples of foodstuffs basically household items you know and then uh but not staples no i don't need any staples i got boxes staples yeah all right yeah you know like four staple guns you know yeah i have laughing i got plenty guns i never use it oh really yeah the laughing ones you know what i'm talking about where the what ones what's it called laughing laughing laughing oh yeah okay the outside so it's basically a hammer staple gun this is really nice if you have to use it on like a you know if you're stapling like fence to a gate or something like that it's just bang bang bang bang bang as opposed to that yeah i've never had one of those they're nice they're nice but only for specific applications if you're trying to finally staple like screen maybe not i mean if you're good at it it's it's perfect but if you're not then you kind of want to stretch your screen and pull you know do it right uh but yeah maybe we should go to costco i'm thinking it's a little trip costco's awesome

1:29:39 yeah you seem to really like it i do just because it's bulk it's a little bit cheaper you know like we we buy primal cuts of meat if we're if we're doing something like that and we can cut it up ourselves and put it in our own freezer bags and put in the freezer um you know when we're not buying from local farmers, which, you know, we do a percentage. I don't know what the percentage is, but we try. You know, we've got a farm stand we go to quite often. Got my raw milk yesterday. So excited. So good. So much better.

1:30:21 Store milk is not good. it's just not it isn't it doesn't taste as good it's not as it's not as good it is lacking in in nutrients you know i mean there's just a i think that whole thing and we still have to do that show dang it one of these days we're a month one of these days we'll get to it yeah i'm still trying to get someone to come on for that i really like to get someone that's that's more knowledgeable than I am to come on and talk with us about it. And I think I can, but it just got to be persistent. Yeah. I don't know.

1:31:01 We'll see. But anyway, sounds like an awesome day for you guys. Going to be awesome for us. We're going to make the most of it. All right. I think we should go ahead and exit now.
